Young people in Da Nang 'carry' electricity to remote villages.

DNO - Undeterred by long distances, steep slopes, and deep ravines, a group of young people from Da Nang recently traveled over 200km, bringing a solar power system to the people in the remote mountainous areas of Quang Nam province.

Lighting Up is one of four projects under JCI Da Nang , aiming to improve the quality of life for people in disadvantaged areas lacking access to electricity, based on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

After more than 5 hours of travel from Da Nang city, members of JCI Vietnam and JCI Da Nang arrived at Tu Linh peak in Tra Lap commune, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province.

During this trip, members of JCI Da Nang visited and donated 20 solar-powered lighting sets to the people of Tra Lap commune, with a total value of approximately 120 million VND. This trip was sponsored by SCCO Gein Academy, Bao Tram Trading & Services Co., Ltd., Xanh Dental Clinic, Van Chuong Dental Clinic, and Nhan Decor by Lighting.

According to our research, Nóc Tú Linh, located in Trà Lập commune, is a particularly disadvantaged area with 20 households and 86 inhabitants. This area lacks access to the national power grid, is situated in a high mountainous region, has no roads, and the local government has yet to officially plan for bringing electricity to the area. The residents primarily rely on slash-and-burn agriculture, and their economic situation is difficult.

After traveling 200km from Da Nang to Tra Lap commune, the young people had to climb the mountain for nearly two hours to reach the location where they donated the lamps.

Upon receiving the solar-powered lamps, Mr. Ho Van Vinh (born in 1982, a resident of Tra Lap commune) couldn't hide his emotion: "I truly feel very happy because of the noble gestures from the young people of JCI Da Nang. Now my children no longer have to sit by the fire to study, and my house, as well as those of other residents here, have more light than ever before," Mr. Vinh expressed.

JCI Da Nang 2025 President Do Trong Anh Vu shared: “For us, this is not just about lighting up with lamps, but also about lighting up hope, opening up opportunities for learning, working, and changing lives. The project is also an environment for young people to get involved, to act, and to feel the value of giving back. We believe that each light bulb lit is a seed of the future sown. And to continue this journey, we sincerely hope to receive the support of partners, benefactors, and young people with the same ideals – together spreading light not only to the community but also to our own hearts.”

The event received a very positive response from the people of Tra Lap commune.

Continuing its journey to illuminate Tu Linh hamlet, the Lighting Project will move on to Mang Oi hamlet, a hamlet located in Tra Tap commune, home to 42 families with over 200 inhabitants, including more than 70 children.

The "Lighting Up Mang Oi Villages" program is currently conducting surveys and seeking support from the community, businesses, and charitable individuals. Financial support, solar energy equipment, or any other form of contribution are invaluable assets that will help us shorten the journey of bringing electricity to the people.

JCI Da Nang – the Junior Chamber International (JCI) in Da Nang – was established with the goal of developing entrepreneurs in Da Nang city. With diverse activities in community development, skills training, and networking, the organization has made a positive contribution to the development of the city and surrounding areas.
