Despite the dedicated care from doctors and nurses, due to his advanced age and frail health, the musician passed away after a period of intensive treatment.
The musician's funeral will take place at the Ministry of National Defense Funeral Home (5 Pham Ngu Lao Street, Ho Chi Minh City).
Composer Lu Nhat Vu, whose real name was Le Van Gat, was born in 1936 in Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province. He was one of the revolutionary artists with many outstanding compositions during the resistance period, such as: "Morning at the Construction Site," "To My Algerian Friend," "The Checked Scarf," etc. These works have touched people's hearts and were an indispensable source of spiritual motivation for the revolutionary movement.
Later, his compositions were heavily influenced by folk music and Southern Vietnamese elements. Songs such as "Saigon Girl Carrying Ammunition," "Song of the Pioneers," "Rest Assured, Mother," and especially "Song of the Southern Land" (released in 1997, the theme song for the film "Southern Land") are loved by many for their ability to evoke, through melody, rhythm, and sound, the era of migrants opening up new lands, carrying layers of regional cultural meaning and the character and identity of the people of Southern Vietnam.
On March 14, 2024, composer Lu Nhat Vu was awarded the 45-year Party membership badge, and his wife (poet Le Giang) was awarded the 75-year and 70-year Party membership badges, respectively, in recognition of their significant contributions to Vietnamese music and the revolution.
Lu Nhat Vu's songwriting career has been a long journey with many noteworthy achievements. His songs are not only valuable musically but also deeply emotional, enriching Vietnamese music.
