Musician La Van Cuong - famous for love songs "Sometimes" and "Garden of Love" - passed away at the age of 67.

Art collector Ly Doi - close colleague of the author Sometimes - said he was heartbroken when he heard the news from his family. A week ago, he met him to discuss the script for a concert celebrating the musician's career, because they had known each other for a long time and were from the same hometown. The program was scheduled to take place on the occasion of Tet At Ty, to celebrate his 70th birthday. According to Ly Doi, the musician was born in 1954 but his documents stated he was born in 1957.

Colleagues said that for many years, he had suffered from heart disease and occasional chest pain. "The script was completed, we planned to meet a few more times to add details and then hand it over to the director. He was very passionate about the program, but...", Ly Doi said.

The musician from Tam Ky, Quang Nam , started writing music in the 1970s. After 1975, he had memorable works with songs calling for national construction, expressing the love desires of youth, such as On the road of life - movie soundtrack Gem in stone

In the 1990s, he made his mark with a series of love songs. Sometimes, Love Garden, Blue Jade, Song of Separation, Destiny . One of the musician's career milestones was when he collaborated with singer Hong Nhung to produce the album Suddenly heard you sing (10 love songs by La Van Cuong and Tran Quang Loc), produced by him, released in 1993.

In there, Sometimes became a hit with its poetic melody and lyrics: "Oh, if only I were that river stream/ Living a life of wandering, wandering to the ends of the earth/ So that there would be the sound of birds and you forever innocent/ I don't know how to wait/ I've stopped wandering". The song is one of Hong Nhung's first songs to enter the top 10 of the Lan Song Xanh chart, helping the musician win the program's commemorative cup. With the song Garden of love (poetry: Minh Nguyet), he continued to be honored at this award in 1999.

In his last years, he worked hard to write music, leaving his mark with many film soundtrack songs, such as Female scout in the movie of the same name, and No husband wharf in the movie The husbandless tycoon . In addition to writing, he is also the editor-in-chief of the anthology Vietnamese music past and present . The musician once said he wanted to collect works by his predecessors and friends - people he admired - to preserve the Vietnamese musical heritage for future generations.
