Musician Vu Xuan Hung

Composer Vu Xuan Hung, born in 1945, was originally a foreign language teacher at several schools in Saigon. In 1972, he was invited by Mr. Quoc Phong, Director of Lien Anh Film Studio, to become the General Secretary of the weekly magazine "Kich Anh" (Drama and Photography ). Along with writer Mai Thao (editor-in-chief), composers Pham Duy, Truong Ky, Nam Loc, etc., he actively promoted the movement to Vietnamize modern pop music.

Having a passion for music , composer Vu Xuan Hung quickly achieved success in translating English and French songs into Vietnamese. He has translated over 100 foreign songs and compiled three collections of youth music featuring works that are always associated with many leading singers such as Thanh Lan, Ngoc Lan, Nguyen Chanh Tin, Y Lan, Duy Quang, Le Uyen Phuong, and others.

Notable compositions by musician Vu Xuan Hung include: "Knocking on the Door," "Sad Film Story," "Wandering," "You Are Beautiful Like a Dream," "Listening to the Sea Sing in the Afternoon," etc. In particular, with "You Don't" and "Doll Without Love "—two translated songs—he left a lasting impression on many generations of audiences, making a significant contribution to the development of Vietnamese music.

Speaking about his compositions, musician Vu Xuan Hung once confided: "The translations I'm very fond of, such as 'Mong Manh' (De Plus En Lpus Fragile) and 'Lang Du' (L'Aventura), are not famous, but the translations that I don't particularly like are very famous, such as 'Bup Do Khong Tinh Yeu ' (Poupee De Cire Poupee De Son) and ' Anh Thi Khong' (Toi jamais)..."

After many years of residing in the United States, in 1997, musician Vu Xuan Hung and his wife returned to Vietnam and established the Tieng Xua (Old Sounds) Music and Drama Tea Room.
