Patients express their opinions during a patient council meeting at Thanh Hoa Provincial Oncology Hospital.
Attending the Board of Directors meeting at Thanh Hoa Provincial Oncology Hospital, we observed an open and receptive atmosphere. After hearing medical staff introduce the hospital, explain the regulations of the departments and wards, and the general regulations of the hospital, as well as the rights and responsibilities of patients during treatment, patients and their families contributed many opinions and aspirations regarding issues such as facilities, examination and treatment procedures, administrative procedures, service attitude, and the provision of mental and material support during treatment. In addition, many patients and their families expressed their emotion and satisfaction with the quality of treatment and the dedicated service of the medical staff during their time at the hospital.
Mr. NDD, currently receiving treatment at the Palliative Care Department, happily shared: "I had previously received treatment at a central-level hospital, but found the commute very long and the living expenses expensive, so I decided to seek treatment at the Thanh Hoa Provincial Oncology Hospital. Here, I find the hospital has modern facilities, a clean environment, and outdoor exercise equipment for patients. Especially, the doctors and nurses are very welcoming and dedicated, explaining our condition and treatment methods to us with great care. I have no complaints and feel very reassured receiving treatment here."
Meanwhile, a family member of patient LTQ, currently being treated in the General Surgery Department, emotionally shared: "My father was admitted to the hospital in a weak condition with a diagnosis of terminal cancer, and the whole family was very worried. But fortunately, my father received dedicated care and treatment from the doctors and nurses in the General Surgery Department and Internal Medicine Department 1. He has been treated at the hospital for over a month now. During his time at the hospital, I found the doctors and nurses to be very welcoming and attentive, explaining the patient's condition and treatment methods clearly, which made my family feel very reassured."
Sharing the same sentiment as patient NDD, Mr. QTT, a family member of patient LTQ, currently being treated in Internal Medicine Department 2, happily shared: "As a large hospital in North Central Vietnam, it has modern medical equipment and a team of highly skilled and enthusiastic doctors and nurses who are always ready to assist patients, day or night, weekends or holidays. Patients needing emergency care can call a doctor immediately. Regarding environmental hygiene, despite the specific needs of cancer patients, the hospital maintains a clean and well-maintained environment. The nurses are very skillful, professional, and always attentive, encouraging, and caring. Regarding patient support activities, the hospital has connected with sponsors to provide patients with meals, porridge, and treatment funds... These are wonderful things that make us patients feel secure in our treatment."

Besides praising the spirit and attitude of medical staff and the quality of medical examination and treatment services, patients and their families also frankly reflected on some issues in the examination and treatment process so that the hospital can continuously improve.
According to Dr. Tran Van Thiet, Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial Oncology Hospital, the Patient Council meeting is a regular monthly activity organized by the hospital. In addition, weekly Patient Council meetings are also held in each department to increase interaction and coordination between patients and medical staff. This is one of the effective activities to promote patients' ownership in contributing opinions on patient reception, examination, treatment, and care. It also provides an opportunity for healthcare staff to provide necessary information to patients and their families, guide patients through admission procedures, health insurance procedures, and discharge procedures, and introduce newly implemented services. In addition, hospital staff incorporate health education topics to help patients and their families gain basic knowledge in healthcare, nutrition for patients, and precautions when using antibiotics. Through constructive feedback from patients and their families, the hospital will promptly address shortcomings, enhance solutions to improve the quality of medical services, meet patient satisfaction, and build the hospital into a "Destination of Trust and Quality."
