According to Bui Van Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province, the memorial ceremony is a humane and meaningful event aimed at raising awareness of the tragedy of traffic accidents and the risks that cause them, thereby improving understanding and compliance with traffic laws. The memorial ceremony is also an opportunity to share and call for support from the community for victims and their families who died in traffic accidents.

Appearing at the ceremony, Mrs. Bui Thi Lan (residing in Huu Nghi Ward, Hoa Binh City) tearfully said that her daughter-in-law died in a multi-vehicle traffic accident involving two cars and a motorbike that occurred at 2:30 AM on June 6, 2023.

Her daughter-in-law passed away, leaving behind two granddaughters, N. (12 years old) and H. (3 years old). Their father leaves for work early every day, so Mrs. Lan has to be both a grandmother and a mother to the two children. "Every time someone asks about N., she cries. She just hugs her mother's blue blanket," Mrs. Lan shared, her voice choked with emotion.

Continuing Mrs. Lan's words, N., wiping away tears, said, "I wish I could study hard so I can get a job and earn money to support myself and my younger sibling."

"Many people suffer lifelong disabilities, and many happy, loving families are suddenly plunged into tragedy, with spouses separated, parents losing children, and children becoming orphans... all because of traffic accidents," Minister Nguyen Van Thang said.

The Minister of Transport said that in the first 10 months of this year, there were 9,826 traffic accidents nationwide, resulting in 5,496 deaths and 6,973 injuries.

“These are heartbreaking statistics that speak volumes and prompt serious reflection. The damage caused by traffic accidents has been and continues to negatively impact the socio -economic development of our country. Many of us still feel insecure whenever we embark on a journey…,” Minister Nguyen Van Thang said.

The Minister of Transport emphasized that this is an occasion to commemorate the unfortunate victims who died in traffic accidents, to share the pain and loss that their loved ones have to bear, and also an opportunity for us to reflect and ponder on how to transform loss and sorrow into concrete actions to minimize and alleviate the suffering caused by traffic accidents.

On behalf of the Government and the National Traffic Safety Committee, Minister Nguyen Van Thang requested that Party committees, authorities, organizations, and functional forces from the central to local levels continue to implement even stronger measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of traffic safety and order.

The Minister also urged everyone to be self-aware and abide by traffic safety regulations, working together to build a safe, civilized, and compassionate traffic environment.

"We often see warnings like 'a minute of haste can cost a lifetime,' but in reality, we need to remind each other, 'a second of haste... can slow down many lives'," Minister Nguyen Van Thang said.
