Quickly repair the landslide-affected mountain passes.

Over the past two days, heavy rains in Lam Dong province have caused landslides on several mountain passes, including Mimosa, Gia Bac, and D'ran. In particular, rocks and soil have spilled onto roads, partially blocking National Highway 20 and National Highway 28, trapping many vehicles. Authorities had to evacuate residents overnight.

On the night of December 3rd, heavy rain in several areas caused landslides on the embankment of Mimosa Pass on National Highway 20, with soil and rocks cascading down and trees falling onto the road. On National Highway 20, D'ran Pass also experienced landslides as soil and rocks from the embankment near Xeo Bridge spilled down, covering the road. Downstream areas, floodwaters from Da Lat caused severe flooding on National Highway 20 through Hiep Thanh commune. Also on December 3rd, Gia Bac Pass on National Highway 28 through Son Dien commune continued to experience severe landslides. Five landslide points were recorded, including one large-scale point that completely buried the road, paralyzing traffic in both directions. Dozens of cars were stranded on the pass overnight, and authorities had to set up checkpoints to regulate traffic and instruct vehicles to turn back. On the morning of December 4th, local authorities organized forces to clear and clean the affected areas to reopen the landslide-affected routes as soon as possible.

According to the leaders of Lam Dong province, rebuilding the transportation network after the floods has become an urgent task for the province. With the strong determination of the government and the efforts of the construction forces, by noon on December 4th, many key roads that had been damaged by landslides and cut off had been repaired and reopened to traffic. For some other key routes experiencing landslides and subsidence, the Provincial People's Committee has assigned relevant agencies to carry out temporary repairs to ensure traffic flow. In the long term, the locality will hire consulting units to comprehensively assess high-risk areas to promptly implement permanent road reinforcement projects, aiming to minimize landslides and subsidence and ensure safe and smooth traffic flow.

Regarding the recovery efforts following the recent floods, on the morning of December 3rd, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee commenced the construction of houses for flood-affected residents in D'ran commune. According to the decision of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, families whose houses were completely destroyed will receive provincial support for rebuilding costs at a rate of 120 million VND per house. Families whose houses were damaged will receive support for repairs ranging from 20 to 40 million VND per house, depending on the extent of the damage. Residents can choose to receive houses built by the government or receive funds to build or repair their own houses with support from the military, police, youth, and volunteers. The completion deadline is before January 15th, 2026. In order to quickly restore production, in recent times, specialized agencies along with the military, police, and youth forces have implemented many synchronized measures such as environmental treatment, disinfection of livestock pens, disease control, clearing canals and waterways, and preparing the land for the new production season.

With 500 billion VND and 1,000 tons of rice provided by the central government, Lam Dong province has urgently allocated 97 billion VND to 30 affected communes and wards to support residents in renting housing, ensuring their livelihoods, and assisting students. The remaining 403 billion VND will be allocated and disbursed directly to the people and localities as soon as possible. 1,000 tons of rice have been distributed to 40 communes and wards for distribution to residents. In recent times, Lam Dong province has also received over 50 tons of goods, necessities, and books donated by various organizations and individuals, which have been delivered to the people.

In the coming days, with rain expected in Lam Dong province, landslides and floods are likely to continue. The Provincial People's Committee has requested local authorities and relevant forces to continue focusing on relocating people from dangerous areas, quickly stabilizing their lives, arranging safe temporary housing, and ensuring the provision of essential necessities. Under no circumstances should people be allowed to return to dangerous areas until safety is guaranteed. Furthermore, local authorities are required to proactively develop emergency support plans and promptly compile a full assessment of the damage to develop appropriate remedial measures.
