Gathering the bounty of the sea flowing in from upstream.

DNO - After days of rain and storms, logs and branches from upstream are carried out to sea by the floodwaters and washed ashore at An Bang beach (Hoi An Tay ward). This is also the time when local people collect them and craft them into valuable works of art.

In recent days, Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan, owner of the Lu Firewood Village facility (Dong Na residential area, Hoi An Tay ward) - which displays thousands of unique recycled wood sculptures - has mobilized people to go to the beach, collect firewood washed ashore, and pile it up in front of his workshop.

From here, these pieces of firewood will be reborn through the skillful hands of the carpenters of Kim Bong village and the creative ideas of Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan to become unique works of art. Mr. Thuan has been doing this work for many years after each storm and flood.

Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan said that he had been contemplating the idea of recycling firewood into art for many years, but hadn't been able to realize it until the Covid-19 pandemic broke out and brought all activities to a standstill. This provided a valuable opportunity for his ideas to take shape.

Initially, Mr. Thuan went to the beach to collect small pieces of wood washed ashore by the waves, which he then crafted into simple products such as tables and chairs, chopstick holders, ashtrays, and bowls and plates for food. Gradually, his collection grew larger with more sophisticated and unique lamps, vases, and animal figurines.

In March 2023, Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan opened the "Firewood Village" in Dong Na residential area, Hoi An Tay ward, which became a space for showcasing and displaying hundreds of unique recycled wood sculptures. Every day, it welcomes many tourists who come to visit and shop.

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan, the value of a work of fine wood art lies not in the wood itself, but in the story it tells.

Many products made by artisan Le Ngoc Thuan are purchased by tourists for tens of millions, even hundreds of millions of dong. This helps create livelihoods and income for many carpenters in Kim Bong; and, more importantly, contributes to conveying the message about artistic rebirth and sustainable development to the community and tourists everywhere.
