Many contributions of female intellectuals in science and technology.

On July 25th, at the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Cadres, the Vietnam Women Intellectuals Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Women Intellectuals Association jointly organized a national-level scientific conference with the theme: “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development: The Role of Women Intellectuals in the 50-Year Journey of National Unification and the Era of National Emergence”.

Attendees included: Truong My Hoa, former Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and former Vice President of Vietnam ; Pham Phuong Thao, former Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and former Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; Nguyen Thi Le, former Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and former Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; and Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Truong Thi Hien, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Women Intellectuals Association, the conference created an academic forum for scientists , experts, managers, and women intellectuals to share knowledge, research results, technology applications, and the contributions of women intellectuals to the development of science and technology and the building of a sustainable society in the 50 years since national reunification. Along with that, it aimed to build and connect a network of women intellectuals across the country to encourage and strongly motivate female scientists to continuously strive and affirm their role and position in the trend of globalization and the era of national progress.

The workshop also made a practical and meaningful contribution to the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, and contributed to the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.

In her opening remarks, Professor Dr. Le Thi Hop, President of the Vietnam Women Intellectuals Association, shared that the conference received 57 papers from female intellectuals and scientists from various regions of the country. Accordingly, many research directions were addressed in the reports, highlighting the role of female intellectuals in scientific research reaching regional levels, along with effective applications in life across many fields: education, health, culture, arts, industry and agriculture, resource conservation, environment, biodiversity…

The reports also offer suggestions and recommendations for solutions to enhance the role of female intellectuals in scientific research, contributing to the realization of Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo.

At the workshop, female intellectuals discussed various issues related to scientific research activities among women and the role of women in the development of science and technology. Ms. Le Thi Khanh Van shared that, according to statistics from the General Statistics Office, in the past 11 years, the number of female scientists has increased from over 56,840 to over 79,000, accounting for 46% of the total research and development workforce.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy noted that female intellectuals have become an important workforce in research, application, and transfer of science and technology; contributing to guiding and formulating policies and promoting activities for the sustainable development of the country.

According to Comrade Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Ho Chi Minh City always cherishes, is proud of, and highly appreciates the valuable contributions of female intellectuals. The achievements Ho Chi Minh City has attained in recent years bear the strong imprint of female intellectuals. Many research projects by female scientists have had an impact beyond the national level and have been recognized with domestic and international awards.

However, Comrade Tran Thi Dieu Thuy also acknowledged that the role of female intellectuals in the fields of science and technology and sustainable development has not yet been fully utilized. Female intellectuals still face many difficulties and challenges in their studies, research, and work, as well as in balancing career development and family life.

In implementing Resolution 57, Ho Chi Minh City continues to create favorable conditions for scientists, especially female scientists, to have more opportunities to develop their abilities, creativity, and contribute even more to the development of science, innovation, and socio-economic development of the city.
