Coincidentally, this year's New Year's Day sees many theaters and stages launching new plays, circus acts, and traditional opera performances to welcome audiences.

New plays are being released in droves for the Western New Year.

On the evening of January 2nd, 2026, Thien Dang Theatre will premiere its brand-new play, "Living Together ." This script is inspired by Nguyen Thu Phuong's adaptation of Nguyen Huy Thiep's short story " There Is No King ." Directed by artist Tuan Khoi, the play features actors Kim Xuan, Thanh Loc, Huu Chau, Hoang Thai Quoc, Le Phuong, Truong Ha, Le Hoang Giang, and others.

The play "Chung Nha" (Living Together) was previously staged by the Youth Theatre under the original title "Nha Co Nam Anh Em Trai" (A House with Five Brothers) in 2011. The play tells the story of a family, each with their own personality, creating conflicts and frustrations.

On the evening of January 4th, the Hoang Thai Thanh theater staged its new play , "Meeting at the End of the Road" (authors: Hoang Thai Thanh - Nguyen Thoai, director: Ai Nhu).

This play tells the poignant love story of Tuan (Tri Quang) and Hien (Hong Anh). War separates them for decades; in the hustle and bustle of life, will they ever find each other again? Besides Tri Quang and Hong Anh, the play also features artists Ai Nhu, Thanh Hoi, Hoang Van Anh, and others.

On the evening of January 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association also presented the play " Lost" to the public at the 5B Theatre. This is a script by author Tran My Trang, which won an award at the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association's writing camp, and is directed by two young directors, Quoc Thinh and Tran Dam Cong Ninh.

"Lac" is a story about medical ethics. Set in a large hospital, it's presented with a modern robotic system for brain and joint surgery by a medical equipment businessman. This deal gives rise to negative consequences. In the current context , "Lac" is considered a rare scenario that sharply reflects issues in healthcare, responsibility, and the conscience of medical professionals.

On January 1st, Truong Hung Minh's theater group will present the play. The Million Dollar Girl (written by: Vuong Huyen Co, directed by: Chanh Truc). The play is a test of human character when a girl abandoned by her family and lover suddenly finds herself about to inherit a massive fortune of 1 million dollars.

Traditional Vietnamese opera (Hát bội) releases the sacred jade seal of the Southern region.

The "Nam Phuong Jade Seal" program is considered by the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Opera Theatre as a special gift to opera lovers, spanning from Christmas to New Year's Day.

The theater is going all out by staging six performances at the Tran Huu Trang Theater, including on December 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 31. All performances are free for the audience.

The Nam Phuong Jade Seal program was first introduced to the public in 2022, with the aim of promoting tourism. However, the program could not be implemented and has been interrupted until today.

Artist Thanh Binh, Head of the Organizing and Performing Arts Department of the theater, told Tuoi Tre Online that this time, the rerun of the program involved quite a few revisions to the original script. For this performance, the theater is continuing to gauge audience reaction to gradually refine the program, with the goal of eventually presenting it to tourists.

The Nam Phuong Jade Seal is a blend of tradition and modernity, following the footsteps of young people to discover the quintessential beauty of Vietnamese opera.

From January 1st to 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Arts Center will present six performances of the new circus show "Memories of the Fire God - The Prequel to the Mysterious Land ". This show is directed by Quoc Cong following the success of the circus show "The Mysterious Land".

According to information from the center, tickets for "Memories of the Fire God - The Mysterious Land Prequel" quickly became a hot commodity because the Ho Chi Minh City circus had gradually gained the trust of audiences after a series of recent successful circus performances.

At the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum, the performance center will continuously present two shows daily (10:30 AM and 2:30 PM) from January 1st to 4th, featuring the Vietnamese water puppet show "Hoa Dat Viet" (Flowers of Vietnam ).

On January 4th, "Cold Compartment No. 44" was a rare new horror play performed for audiences on New Year's Day. The script was written by Dinh Manh Phuc and Le Quoc Nam, and directed by artist Le Quoc Nam for the Truong Hung Minh theater.

The play features performances by artists Viet Huong, Le Quoc Nam, Le Nam, Maika, Di Duong, Vo Minh Khai, and others.

Hong Van Theatre will present its graduation play, " Where Did My Big Brother Go?", on January 3rd. Idecaf Theatre will perform its new play, "The Pink Crow Spreads Its Wings," on the evening of January 1st. The play features actors Dinh Toan, Dai Nghia, Thanh Thuy, Quang Thao, My Duyen, Minh Dung, and others.
