New children's plays for Children's Day (June 1st) are few but colorful.

Overall, the landscape of new children's plays for this year's Children's Day (June 1st) is not yet very vibrant.

Children's theater is not easy to sustain.

As is customary every year, the Idecaf Theatre prepares its "Once Upon a Time" program well in advance.

For 26 years, the unit has remained a leader in preparing vibrant children's plays for the summer, staging grand productions and performing them with great enthusiasm at the Ben Thanh Theater.

This summer, the theater continues its 37th installment of "Once Upon a Time" with the play " The Academy of Magic - The Final Boss Appears, and Work Comes!" The first performance is at 9:30 AM on May 31st, and the show will continue throughout the summer.

The theater sells tickets in batches, with about eight performances each time. Every time tickets go on sale on the Ticketbox system, they sell out very quickly, proving that " Once Upon a Time" remains the unrivaled children's theater program in Ho Chi Minh City today.

In recent years, a formidable force has emerged alongside Idecaf: the Truong Hung Minh theater group, which produces a large-scale "Fairy Tales " program with the hope of delighting young audiences.

The fairy tale series reached its third installment last year; however, for various reasons, this year the theater will not be continuing with the summer children's play.

This interruption has somewhat diminished the atmosphere of children's theater. This partly demonstrates that maintaining a regular annual children's theater program is not easy at all. Because this type of theater requires significant investment, it is difficult to sustain it in the long run without ensuring long-term sustainability.

Just in time for Children's Day (June 1st), Quoc Thao Theatre presents its new play, " The Society of Fairies and the Stubborn Princess ," which will be performed at 7 PM on May 30th. This year, a last-minute newcomer, San Khau Moi Theatre, is making a surprise. This is considered a young theatre that has been performing in Ho Chi Minh City for less than a year but has already dared to venture into children's theatre.

Although the production team hasn't revealed any details about the play, just before Children's Day (June 1st), they unveiled a temporary poster for the play "The Dragon and the Immortal ." Director Minh Nhật stated that the play will have its first performance on June 7th, followed by a tour of the Mekong Delta provinces.

A shimmering fairy tale

There are only three new children's plays for the June 1st Children's Day celebration, but each has its own unique style for young audiences and their families to choose from.

The magical academy - The final boss is here to take action!, by author Quang Thảo, continues to be directed by Đình Toàn, and is a story inspired by Harry Potter that has captivated audiences of all ages , from children to adults.

From the Academy of Magic, the play follows the challenging journey of a kind-hearted haunted doll as she strives to survive and avoid being cast into oblivion.

The meticulously staged performance, featuring elaborate scenery, costumes, music , and characters from classic fairy tales, promises to overwhelm young audiences with its rich and humanistic message.

The Fairy Society and the Stubborn Princess (written and directed by Quoc Thao) tells the story of a spoiled princess who is extremely stubborn. The Fairy Society uses magic to transform the princess into a commoner and send her wandering among the people.

From then on, the princess experienced the hardships of the poor, gradually changing and learning to appreciate the value of life more. After the premiere, the play will be performed for young audiences at the Quoc Thao Theater throughout the summer.

The play "Descendants of the Dragon and the Immortal" (script: Nhu Truc, director: Minh Nhat) was staged by the couple Minh Nhat and Nhu Truc for an event program.

Because they already had costumes, props, and scenery, they decided to take advantage of it and expand the stage to create more opportunities for young actors. Minh Nhat said that during their recent tour in Da Nang , the theater and artist Hoai Linh noticed that people in distant provinces really enjoyed watching full-length plays. Therefore, this summer, after the performance in the city, they will take " The Dragon and the Immortal" and an adult play, "Will We Get Married in January?" , on tour to the provinces in the Mekong Delta.

The upcoming performances are on June 12th, 13th, and 14th in Can Tho City. These include discounted performances for students.

Unable to produce new plays in time for Children's Day (June 1st), the 5B Theatre is re-staging plays from the Lunar New Year that are still popular with young audiences, such as " The Magic Pen," "The Chicken and Duck Squad," and "The Secret of the Circus and the Magic Horse ." The Ban Mai Theatre, specializing in children's plays, is also promising audiences a performance at the end of June with a play with a very unusual title, " Sờ Lây Village . "

The mysterious land returns with Pro Max.

The "Mysterious Land" circus show, which caused an unprecedented sensation in Ho Chi Minh City's circus scene from last year to this year, will return this summer with a new version called " Mysterious Land Pro Max" .

The first performance will be at 8 PM on May 29th. According to Quoc Cong, the director of the show, while still based on the original story of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, the pro max version will be significantly upgraded in terms of technology to continue overwhelming the audience with emotion and celebrate the spectacular circus acts within a system of highly versatile characters.

The characters have also been changed, and the costumes are more elaborate. The show ends with a glimpse of The Mysterious Land Part 2. After the premiere, The Mysterious Land will entertain young audiences throughout the summer at the Gia Dinh Park Circus.
