Do Ngoc Gia Bao, a student in the 11th grade Chemistry 1 class at Hanoi Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, achieved a perfect SAT score of 1600/1600. Bao admitted that although he was sometimes "stubborn" during his preparation, the 1600 score wasn't entirely unexpected.

Recalling the time when he first started studying for the SAT, Bao was stubborn and didn't complete his assignments, which required a lot of reminders and encouragement from his teacher for a long time. Later, when he became more serious, he still avoided certain sections, especially the types of questions he disliked or found too difficult.

Despite being a chemistry major and having a knack for logical thinking, Bao sees the SAT as an opportunity to challenge himself in both language skills and academic thinking according to American standards.

Since I was little, I've been fascinated by the universe and astronomy. When I was a child, I often asked my mother to buy me lots of books on this topic, and instead of reading comic books, I preferred reading children's science books about the universe.

In middle school, Bao was very enthusiastic about Physics, but the curriculum was quite different from what he had imagined. Later, he gradually found Chemistry more interesting and shifted his focus to it. However, even now, he still loves both Chemistry and Physics, and his interest in science in general has stayed with him from childhood to the present.

Because of her love for numbers and chemical reactions, Bao believes that the Reading section was where she truly explored her limits when taking the SAT. Previously, Bao thought this section was almost unsuitable for her, as the long and information-rich passages easily distracted her. There were times when she finished reading and felt completely overwhelmed, unsure of the main idea or the correct approach.

However, Bao realized that Reading wasn't simply about testing vocabulary or English reading ability, but actually about testing logical thinking skills, information selection, and understanding the author's arguments.

"When I understood that, I felt like I had 'unlocked' a part of my thinking that I had never known how to use before. That moment made me realize that sometimes my limitations just stem from not having found the right method," Bao recalled.

Do Ngoc Gia Bao (center), a student in class 11 Chemistry 1 at Hanoi Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, has just achieved a perfect SAT score of 1600/1600.

According to Bao, the secret to achieving a perfect SAT score lies in perseverance. For students majoring in science, especially Chemistry or Math, logical thinking is already a huge advantage when studying for the SAT, particularly in the Reading section. In addition, finding a tutor whose thinking methods align with those of science students will help shorten the time spent "groping in the dark."

In addition, during exam periods, Bao usually wakes up at 3 AM to study, while normally it's around 5 AM. Thanks to this, he always stays alert during class and almost never falls asleep in class.

"However, my weakness is that my ability to handle pressure isn't very good. When the results aren't as expected, I easily get anxious and lose my composure. Perhaps because I've been quite protected by my family, besides studying, I haven't encountered too many difficulties in life. Currently, I'm trying to accumulate more life experiences and knowledge by learning from adults and older students," Bao shared.

Do Ngoc Gia Bao aims to win a scholarship to study aerospace engineering in Japan.

In the near future, I aim to achieve an IELTS score of around 8.5 and seek opportunities to receive scholarships to study in Japan. Currently, I haven't set a specific university in mind, but I am very interested in aerospace engineering and hope to pursue this field in the future.
