One of the main reasons people favor electric vehicles is their economic efficiency, in addition to environmental benefits. Electric vehicles do not emit CO₂ or other pollutants like gasoline or diesel vehicles, contributing to a reduction in the greenhouse effect and improving air quality, especially in densely populated urban areas.
In the context of increasingly complex climate change, switching to electric vehicles demonstrates personal responsibility towards the environment. Phan Van Phung (My An ward, Ngu Hanh Son district), a driver for nearly 10 years, shared that compared to electric vehicles, the input costs of gasoline-powered cars are constantly increasing. With about 30 trips a month, he spends an average of 8-9 million VND on gasoline, while the cost for an electric car is only about one-third, or even free for models with free charging.
A typical bus trip from Da Nang to Hoi An costs around 600,000 VND, but for the same route, an electric vehicle only costs 400,000-430,000 VND. This is why many service drivers and locals prefer this type of vehicle. Sharing this view, Mr. Le Tan Hieu, a service driver, said he is considering selling his gasoline-powered car to switch to an electric one. However, he is hesitant because charging stations are not yet widespread…
According to Mr. Le Tan Vinh, Director of Vinh Le Tourism Services Company, compared to vehicles running on fossil fuels, electric vehicles have significantly lower operating costs. Electricity is generally cheaper than gasoline and diesel, and electric vehicles are less prone to breakdowns and do not require regular oil changes. Users only need to charge them at home or public charging stations, which is both convenient and saves costs in the long run. Furthermore, not only pure electric cars but also hybrid vehicles are being considered for conversion.
Vietnam is reportedly promoting a green transition through tax incentives, support for charging infrastructure, and encouragement of domestic electric vehicle production, as well as tax exemptions, priority vehicle registration, or preferential purchase programs from manufacturers. This makes it easier for people to access electric vehicles.
In particular, modern electric vehicles are equipped with many advanced technologies such as navigation systems, touch screens, voice assistants, and smart connectivity. Their smooth, quiet operation and rapid acceleration are also major advantages that satisfy users. Along with the development of sustainable lifestyles, consumers are increasingly conscious of choosing environmentally friendly products. Electric vehicles are not just a means of transportation, but also a responsibility.
By the end of 2024, Vietnam will have over 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations installed nationwide, particularly in major cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. The development of electric vehicles creates job opportunities and promotes new related industries such as battery manufacturing, charging stations, and after-sales services.
Surveys show that the use of electric vehicles in Da Nang is on the rise due to numerous cost advantages. Notably, electric vehicles have significantly fewer components compared to gasoline-powered cars, resulting in lower maintenance costs, eliminating the need for oil changes, air filter replacements, and oil filter changes. Because of the fewer components, the risks associated with electric vehicles are also lower than with traditional gasoline cars.
The preference for electric vehicles stems not only from personal benefits but also reflects a global trend towards environmental protection and sustainable energy use. With the rapid development of technology and supportive policies, electric vehicles are poised to become a popular mode of transportation in the near future. With the participation of numerous domestic and international manufacturers, the Vietnamese electric vehicle market in general, and Da Nang in particular, is expected to continue its strong growth in the coming years.
