The meaningful banh chung

In recent days, while the southern region of Thai Nguyen province is struggling to cope with floods, in Duc Xuan ward, pots of banh chung are burning all night long. Not for Tet, but the cakes are sent to the flooded areas, sending the warmth of the beloved northern region.

Many people in Duc Xuan ward participated in wrapping banh chung to send to flooded areas in the south of the province.

At the cultural house of group 10, from afternoon until late at night, the bustling, warm atmosphere spread. Green dong leaves, white sticky rice, pork… were carefully prepared by the people. Some washed the leaves, some wrapped cakes, some lit the fire, all contributed with a common wish: to soon send a little warmth, to share with the places surrounded by floodwaters.

Over 500 banh chung were wrapped by Duc Xuan ward residents in one night. Dong leaves, sticky rice, and pork were all donated by the locals. Everyone worked with a sense of urgency and warmth.

Ms. Pham Thi Lien, Group 10, Duc Xuan Ward, shared: We wrap the cakes with all our heart. Each cake sent is a word of encouragement, hoping that people in flooded areas will soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

Unlike previous years, this time all cakes were vacuum-sealed before being sent. This method helps preserve the cakes longer and, especially, if they accidentally fall into water, the cakes will not get wet or damaged. A seemingly small detail but shows the thoughtfulness, responsibility and deep affection of the people of Duc Xuan ward.

The finished banh chung bags are neatly arranged and labeled “Banh chung sent to flooded areas - Duc Xuan, Thai Nguyen ”. From here, these cakes will travel through muddy roads, carrying the taste of home and the affection of the people of the North to the people in flooded areas.

Amidst the floods, banh chung is not only food, but also faith and humanity. Despite the geographical distance, Thai Nguyen people always turn to each other, unite to overcome difficulties - so that love and compassion can spread, warming people during the rainy and flooded days.
