Currently, there are over 188,700 children in the province, accounting for 21.45% of the total provincial population. Among them, a significant number are children in special circumstances, including 103 orphans (having lost both parents), 1,681 children with disabilities; and over 28,500 children living in poor or near-poor households, representing 15.12%.
Vi Thanh Thuong, 11 years old, lives with her mother in Khuoi Sly village, Tan Tien commune, after her father passed away early due to a serious illness. Her mother lacks stable employment, and the family is in extremely difficult circumstances. Understanding her situation, in early 2022, the Tan Tien Commune Women's Union adopted her, providing monthly visits, encouragement, and support of 200,000 VND; they also mobilized various departments, organizations, and benefactors to donate gifts to her during holidays and festivals. Thuong shared: "I am very happy and grateful for the care and encouragement from everyone. I promise to be well-behaved and study hard so as not to disappoint the kindness everyone has shown me."
Thuong is one of over 400 children sponsored under the "Godmother" program implemented by women's associations at all levels. This is a highly humane model, creating a sustainable support system for orphaned and disadvantaged children in the province. To date, the program has mobilized resources totaling over 2.9 billion VND, contributing to providing many orphaned and disadvantaged children with better conditions for learning, living, and confidently striving in life.
Not only the "Godmother" Program, but in recent times, the work of caring for and protecting children, especially orphans and children in particularly difficult circumstances, has received the involvement of the entire political system with practical programs and models.
Mr. Lo Tien Vinh, Head of the Social Affairs Department of the Department of Health, said: The implementation of programs and models to support disadvantaged children in recent times has affirmed the responsibility of the entire political system and the joint efforts of the whole society. Many practical models have been implemented such as the "Adopted Children of the Youth Union" program, the "Bright Tomorrow" program of the Provincial Police, the "Family Adoption of Children with Special Difficulties for a Limited Time" model..., thereby not only helping children overcome immediate difficulties but also creating a long-term support system, contributing to ensuring children's rights and promoting comprehensive development.
Besides providing material and emotional support, the care and protection of children in particularly difficult circumstances is also effectively implemented through practical medical support programs. In 2025, the Department of Health, in coordination with Center II and the Vietnam Association for the Relief of Disabled Children, organized a surgical program for disabled children, examining and performing surgery on 39 children with various deformities across multiple specialties. This has helped disabled children improve their health, increase their ability to integrate into the community, and significantly reduce the financial burden of treatment for their families.
Ms. Nong Thi Thao, from Lang Cang 1 village, Van Linh commune – a parent whose child received surgical support in this round – shared: "My child has an extra index finger on their right hand, but due to our family's financial difficulties, we couldn't afford early treatment. Thanks to the support program, my child received free surgery, and our family also received financial assistance for food and transportation during treatment. For low-income households like ours, this care is truly invaluable, giving my child the opportunity to live and study normally like their peers."
Through practical models and programs, child care and protection efforts in the province are gradually moving towards sustainable solutions, creating a safe and compassionate environment where children, especially those in difficult circumstances, can receive care, attention, and comprehensive development. These loving "pillars of support," built through the involvement of the entire political system and the collective efforts of the community, are invaluable assets, providing children with confidence and strength to move forward on their path.
