Joining the Party at the age of 18.
Pham Huu Huy (born in 2004) and Pham Thi Tra My (born in 2007) are the children of martyr and Hero of the People's Armed Forces Pham Huu Huyen. All three children sacrificed their lives in 2007 while carrying out relief efforts following Typhoon No. 2 in Chau Hoa commune, formerly Tuyen Hoa district.
At that time, Huu Huy was only 3 years old and Tra My was only 3 months old. Now, the children of the hero of yesteryear have grown up, become mature, and have all joined the Party upon turning 18.
In mid-June 2025, Pham Thi Tra My, an outstanding Youth Union member and student of class 12A1, was admitted to the Party by Branch 3 of the Le Thuy High School Party Committee. To be admitted into the Party, Tra My had continuously strived and worked hard in her studies and participated in Youth Union activities; actively undergoing a process of self-cultivation and training to become an outstanding and exemplary individual at the school.
“For me, joining the Party at the age of 18, being admitted to the Party at the school where I studied and trained, is an immense honor. Therefore, I must strive and work even harder to be worthy of the trust of the Party, my teachers, and my friends. The future still holds many challenges, so I need to be more dynamic, creative, and responsible in all my activities…,” Tra My shared.
Over the years, Tra My has strived tirelessly in her studies, achieving the distinction of being an outstanding student at Le Thuy High School for three consecutive years, along with many other impressive academic achievements: Third prize in the provincial English competition for 11th grade, honorable mention in the provincial English competition for 12th grade, etc.
On the day Tra My took the oath to join the Party, she promised absolute loyalty, unwavering commitment to the Party's goals and ideals, and continued striving in her studies and training to become an exemplary Party member and citizen of the new era of national development, worthy of being a student of Le Thuy High School - a school with a rich tradition of over 60 years of construction and development...
Tra My, like her brother Pham Huu Huy, was admitted to the Party at Le Thuy High School (Huy joined the Party in 2022) when he turned 18. For Huy, what was even more special was that at that time, it had been over 30 years since Le Thuy High School had had a student admitted to the Party.
Pham Huu Huy also made his mark with an impressive academic record, winning numerous prestigious awards such as: Third prize at the provincial level in Physics for 12th graders, second prize at the provincial level in Physics for 11th and 12th graders, and the title of "Excellent Student" at the provincial level...

Continuing my father's dream.
The well-built house of the wife and children of the fallen hero of the People's Armed Forces, Pham Huu Huyen, is located in the center of Le Thuy commune. These past few days, taking advantage of his limited leave, Huy (currently a third-year student in class CT28 at the Political Officer Training School) has returned home to visit. Previously, in 2022, Huy passed the entrance exam to the school with a score of 29.5, ranking first in the A-block at that time.
In the stories told, the memories of his father, though a great loss in his life, became the motivation for Huy to move forward. Huy shared: "When I was little, I didn't fully understand the loss and sacrifice my father made."
Later in life, looking at my father's portrait in his military uniform, I always harbored the ambition to become a soldier of Uncle Ho, to follow in my father's footsteps in the military, and not disappoint my mother who was working hard to raise my brother and me.
“What I remember most is that every time my father came home, he would take me to play all over the village. Many times he took me back to his unit to visit, and knowing that I couldn't sleep without electricity, he would ‘watch over’ me so I could sleep soundly; he would lovingly take care of me when I fell…,” Huy recalled.
In this year's high school graduation exam, with a converted total score of 29.17 points, Pham Thi Tra My plans to apply to the Logistics Academy, hoping to continue her father's unfinished military career... |
For Huy, after the pain of losing his father came pride, and after that pride came dedication and effort in studying, training, and fulfilling the duties of a soldier of Uncle Ho's army. Whenever he faced difficulties, he thought that they were nothing compared to his father's sacrifice, so he tried harder to overcome them. Therefore, during his years at the Political Officer School, he consistently achieved the title of "Advanced Soldier".
"My goal is to graduate with a lieutenant's degree and to be assigned to a key unit of the Army to continue learning and training, becoming a political officer serving the Fatherland and the People...", Huy said.

Ms. Mai Thi Hien, wife of People's Armed Forces Hero Pham Huu Huyen, shared that although their father passed away early and they lacked affection, Huu Huy and Tra My overcame difficulties and always tried their best to repay the kindness that their family and school had given them, turning that into strength and determination in their studies and training.
“After my husband's death, our family life was turned upside down. Fortunately, both my husband's and my families have been loving and supportive, helping me raise my grandchildren and provide for their education. I'm very happy that they are all obedient, well-behaved, and excel in their studies…,” said Ms. Hien.
