Traditional medicine practitioner Le Phuoc Rong is in charge of providing traditional medicine examinations and treatments to people in the commune and surrounding areas. Mr. Rong said: “The Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic currently has 11 members, including one traditional medicine practitioner and one doctor. The remaining members are responsible for assisting with pharmaceuticals, collecting, processing, and preserving medicines… Each person has their own role, working voluntarily and wholeheartedly to care for the health and treat the people. Most patients who come here are from disadvantaged backgrounds, so providing free medical examinations and medicine is very meaningful. Everyone at the Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic always prioritizes the medical ethics of practitioners, striving to treat illnesses and care for the health of the people as best as possible.”
Every year, Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic examines and treats approximately 1,800 patients, dispensing over 5,400 doses of medicine to impoverished patients. The majority of patients seeking treatment are from disadvantaged backgrounds, low-income workers, and suffer from conditions such as sciatica, spinal degeneration and spurs, rheumatism, general weakness, post-stroke complications, sinusitis, hepatitis, kidney failure, headaches, lower back pain, diabetes, and dermatological diseases. All costs, from examination and treatment to dispensing medicine, are free, enabling patients to receive long-term treatment. Mr. Rong shared: “A doctor must treat patients with both medical skill and medical ethics. Each doctor here not only dedicates time to research and learning but also considers helping patients as a regular part of their work.”
The members also regularly organize trips to collect medicinal herbs both locally and outside the area. The source of medicinal herbs is readily available in nature, but collecting and supplementing them is not easy. They must have a deep understanding and many years of experience with medicinal plants, easily identifying each type and its therapeutic effects. In the first six months of 2026, the members collected and processed more than 2 tons of various dried medicinal herbs, basically meeting the local healthcare needs.
At the Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic, everyone works with a spirit of volunteerism, without salary, but everyone is very happy and enthusiastic. Every day, Mr. Le Van Lung (59 years old), residing in Phu An commune, shares: “I do this so the clinic has enough medicine to help many poor patients who cannot afford treatment. As long as I can still do it, I will continue to do it; it is also a source of happiness and joy in my old age.”
Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic serves as both a research center for traditional medicine and a place where people can seek medical examinations, treatment, and access to quality, safe, and effective medicines. “We always understand our patients, and we see examining and treating illnesses as a joy in our lives, especially for the poor and those in difficult circumstances. I feel happy when I cure my patients,” shared physician Ngo Van Nhe.
With the belief that healing should not discriminate between rich and poor, and that everyone who comes can receive medicine, the Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic has cured many patients over the years. Mr. Tran Van Phuoc, residing in Phu An commune, said: “I suffered from sciatica, numbness in my legs, and frequent aches and pains. I tried medicine from many places but nothing helped. A relative who had been cured here recommended me. The doctors are very kind and dedicated in examining, treating, and caring for patients.” Suffering from severe multiple joint degeneration and facing financial difficulties, Ms. Huynh Thi Hoa, residing in Binh Thanh Dong commune, regularly receives free examinations and treatment here. “I heard about this clinic from an acquaintance, so I came for examination and treatment. The doctors are very thorough, asking detailed questions about my condition. Since starting treatment, my health has improved, and the pain has significantly decreased,” Ms. Hoa shared.
With a compassionate heart and meaningful work in examining and treating illnesses for local people, Phu Xuan Traditional Medicine Clinic has become a pillar of support for poor patients, contributing to the local health sector's efforts in caring for people's health.
