The doctors and nurses at Ha Tinh Mental Health Hospital always stand by and support patients.

With nearly 19 years of experience in the medical field, nurse Tran Thi Hong Ngan – Head of Nursing Department, Ha Tinh Mental Health Hospital – has shared and supported those suffering from mental health conditions for just as long.

Sharing about her work, nurse Tran Thi Hong Ngan said: "Each patient has different circumstances and fates, but most are very difficult and heartbreaking. There are families where all three members are ill. During treatment, especially in the early stages, the patients' mental state and awareness are unstable; sometimes they resist, shout, and some even defecate indiscriminately. In such situations, we look at them with compassion, empathy, and support above all else. We must put ourselves in their shoes to be patient, understanding, and comforting."

To help patients stabilize their mental state, nurses must learn to communicate through eye contact, gestures, and even empathetic silence.

According to doctors and nurses, some patients, upon admission, don't know who they are, can't control their behavior, and sometimes even become uncontrollable and defiant. But for the nursing staff at Ha Tinh Mental Health Hospital, they are still patients who need love and care. To help patients stabilize their mental state, nurses must learn to communicate through eye contact, gestures, and even through empathetic silence. Many liken this work to "caring for children in adult bodies." Besides facing psychological pressure, nurses also frequently encounter danger. Some are attacked unexpectedly by patients, while others are injured while trying to intervene in outbursts. But overcoming their fears, they return to work every day.

Nurse Bui Duc Nguyen, A person with over 10 years of experience at the hospital shared: "It's very normal for patients to have outbursts of aggression and verbal abuse. And we all understand that it's something they don't want. After they calm down, they become very gentle again and proactively apologize to the doctors and nurses. Seeing them struggle to fight their illness motivates us to accompany, share, and empathize with them more, helping them overcome their illness sooner. Every time a patient is discharged and returns to normal life, that's the greatest happiness for us, and all the hardships disappear."

The nursing staff at Ha Tinh Mental Health Hospital always provides maximum support and assistance to patients.

Reportedly, Ha Tinh Psychiatric Hospital currently has nearly 60 staff members, with nurses accounting for approximately two-thirds. Each day, they care for hundreds of inpatients, the majority of whom are in particularly difficult circumstances, suffer from chronic illnesses, or experience frequent relapses.

Their work begins early in the morning with assisting patients with personal hygiene, cleaning patient rooms, dispensing medication, guiding rehabilitation exercises, engaging in conversation, and providing emotional support. At night, while patients sleep, they remain on duty in case anyone becomes agitated or suffers from insomnia. Behind the gentle smiles of each nurse lie sleepless nights and unwavering resilience in overcoming mental pressure to ensure patients' safety and well-being. Thanks to this dedication and responsibility, many patients have recovered well, returned to life, and reintegrated into the community.

The nursing team is the one who restores hope to patients.

Dr. Nguyen Hong Phuc, Director of the Ha Tinh Mental Health Hospital, shared: "Patients treated in hospitals are completely different from patients in other medical facilities. They have unique injuries, so understanding information about their condition and disease progression is especially important. And the nursing staff are the ones who have the most frequent contact with patients, playing a crucial role in improving treatment effectiveness."

Each patient has a unique situation, with over 50% lacking family members to provide daily care. Therefore, the nursing staff here not only carry out medical orders and administer injections, but also assume the role of a family member, caring for, listening to, reassuring, and accompanying patients every moment. They are the ones who rekindle hope for the patients.”
