Movies to look forward to in 2025

Entertainment newspapers and magazines predict that in 2025, film adaptations, reboots, sequels, and films directed by big names will flood theaters throughout the year, promising a vibrant year for the silver screen.

In the live-action film category, the most anticipated releases in 2024 are from Disney – the giant of the silver screen. Many projects on this list belong to Disney's subsidiaries such as Marvel, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios, while the rest are produced by Disney itself. Notable examples include Captain America: Brave New World (scheduled for release on February 14th), Thunderbolts* (May 2nd), and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25th) – all three produced by Marvel. Towards the end of the year, the blockbuster Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 29th) will continue to heat up the box office during the busy holiday season.

Several other important films expected to contribute to box office revenue and make this year's box office scene equally vibrant come from other studios, including: Paddington in Peru (February 14), Mickey 17 (March 7), Snow White (March 21), Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (May 23), How to Train Your Dragon (June 13), the return of the famous horror franchise with 28 Years Later (June 20), the reappearance of the famous dinosaur franchise with Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2), the new Superman franchise (July 11), and the fantasy film Wicked: Part Two (October 21).

In the animation sector, many films are expected to be successful after a year of box office success for the genre. Disney, the "giant," has two standout films: Elio (June 13) and Zootopia 2 (November 26). Looking specifically at Disney's upcoming projects, the studio holds significant box office assets, ranging from live-action films and remakes of classic animated films to animated movies themselves.

Outside of Hollywood, a highly anticipated newcomer is the next film in the Japanese anime franchise Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle, scheduled for release in 2025.
