- "In business, profit is an important factor, but the success of a business or an entrepreneur is not only measured by material gains but also by the positive values ​​it brings to the community." This is the motto of businessman Nguyen Duy Kien, born in 1984, Director of Phuc Loi Construction Consulting and Investment Joint Stock Company, Tan Ha Ward (Tuyen Quang City).

The first bricks

Born and raised in a not-so-well-off family, Nguyen Duy Kien was familiar with hard manual labor from a young age. Witnessing the difficulties in his hometown, with many families living in dilapidated houses, he always harbored the dream of contributing to changing his hometown with his own hands and knowledge.

After graduating from the University of Construction in 2007, instead of looking for work in Hanoi or returning to his hometown of Bac Ninh, Kien decided to start his career in Tuyen Quang. Recalling his not-so-easy entrepreneurial journey, he confided: “In 2008, I took on my first project, building a house at a lower cost than the market rate. I designed it myself, bought the materials myself, and supervised the construction. The completion of the first house was a great motivation for me. However, the path to entrepreneurship was not easy at all.”

Businessman Nguyen Duy Kien received a Certificate of Commendation for his outstanding achievements in business activities in Tuyen Quang province in 2024.

"In the beginning, even though I had received some projects, the shortage of manpower, lack of management experience, and competition from established construction companies almost overwhelmed me. Sometimes, contractors were late in paying, and I had to borrow money at interest to pay the workers' salaries. There were times when I thought about giving up. But when I looked back at the first house I built myself, I found the motivation to continue."

Determined to change, Mr. Kien studied management and accounting, recruited experienced engineers, and focused on training a skilled construction team. Next, he invested in project management software, applied digital technology to design, and established standardized processes for each type of project. As a result, construction time was shortened, and errors were reduced. Through dedication and guaranteed construction quality, his company gradually received more contracts, from small local projects to large-scale constructions.

In 2021, recognizing that fire prevention and fighting efforts were inadequate in many localities, especially residential areas and schools, he expanded his business to include fire safety equipment. His company is now a leading provider of consulting, design, and installation services for fire safety systems in the Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang regions. Many projects designed and installed by his company have become operational and effective, such as: the fire safety system for Kim Binh Guesthouse; the systems for Mai Son Hotel and Kim Xuyen General Hospital (Son Duong); and the construction and equipment installation for the infrastructure investment project at Nang Kha Ethnic Boarding High School in Nang Kha commune (Na Hang)...

Starting as a small business, after 18 years, Phuc Loi Construction Consulting and Investment Joint Stock Company, founded by Mr. Kien, has become one of the reputable contractors both within and outside the province. Annual revenue exceeds 45 billion VND, contributing over 3 billion VND to the state budget. The company provides stable employment for over 200 workers with incomes ranging from 8 to 10 million VND per person per month.

Entrepreneurs for the community

Beyond his business success, Mr. Kien always believes: “Sustainable success is a harmonious combination of business growth and creating value for the community. Having gone through difficult times, I now empathize with those less fortunate. Through charitable activities, I want to help those in similar circumstances to my own past. This is not only an act of gratitude, but also a promise to my own past.”

His philanthropic journey began quietly. Initially, he donated money and materials to underprivileged families through his construction projects. He later established a corporate charity fund, focusing on supporting education, healthcare, and helping those in need.

Every year, he spends approximately 100 million VND on charitable and humanitarian activities; of which, he donates 30 million VND to the provincial scholarship fund; and organizes the awarding of hundreds of scholarships to poor students and disadvantaged families. In 2024, in addition to his charitable activities, he donated over 85 million VND in money and goods to support families affected by Typhoon Yagi in various districts and cities.

A memorable moment in Kien's charitable work was supporting the construction of a "House of Compassion" for the family of Ha Thi Thuong, a 4th-grade student at Xuan Quang Primary School (Chiem Hoa district) in 2024. Thuong's family faced extremely difficult circumstances, having lived for many years in a dilapidated and run-down house. Her father suffered from cirrhosis, and her mother had to stay home alone to care for her husband and child. Thuong herself unfortunately had a malignant tumor in her breast.

In that situation, the collective of staff, teachers, parents, and Mr. Kien, the head of the Parents' Association of Le Van Tam Primary School, joined hands to donate 110 million VND to support the construction of a house for Thuong's family. Mr. Kien said: "When we started building the house, Thuong's father passed away. But before he left, he felt very reassured and at peace knowing that his wife and children would have a sturdy, comfortable house to live and study in. That is a memory I will never forget, and it makes me feel even more meaningful about what I have done."

Ms. Ly Thi Dung, mother of Ha Thi Thuong, shared: “My family is very grateful for the help from the school and Mr. Kien, who helped our family build a sturdy house. Mr. Kien also provided additional funds to buy household items and tuition for our child. Having a decent home means we don't have to worry every time it rains or storms, and it gives us motivation to develop our economy and raise our children to be successful adults.”
Beyond providing material support, he also creates jobs for local people in his construction projects. He is also willing to provide capital and technical support to those with startup ideas.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thap, Chairman of the Provincial Business Association, said: “Businessman Nguyen Duy Kien has made many contributions to production and business activities and is active in association work. As Vice Chairman of the Tuyen Quang City Business Association and Head of the Trang Da Business Association branch, Mr. Kien has demonstrated the dynamism of a young entrepreneur, responsibility, and dedication, fostering unity among members. He actively participates in social and charitable activities, supporting the construction of houses for people in difficult circumstances. This is a noble gesture, spreading the spirit of mutual support and building a positive image for the business community and entrepreneurs of the province.”

For his personal and business contributions, Mr. Kien has received numerous commendations and certificates of merit from various levels and sectors for his achievements in building and developing the local economy; and for his outstanding achievements in social welfare, promoting education, and nurturing talent.
