In recent days, there has been good news in Thuan An City. That is, families with preferential policies, poor and near-poor people who are facing difficulties with housing... are constantly starting to build new or repair houses. Typically, in Lai Thieu Ward, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward recently organized the handover of solidarity houses to poor households, namely Mrs. Nguyen Loan Chi and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Be. The two houses were repaired according to the standards of level 4 houses, with tiled floors, corrugated iron roofs, and solid walls, with a total cost of 100 million VND supported by the ward's "For the Poor" Fund.

Needless to say, they were so happy when they received the house. Because, for a long time, the house had been old and dilapidated… Mrs. Nguyen Loan Chi shared: “I am so happy! Seeing the house renovated neatly, I have no words to describe it. I thank the local government and benefactors for their attention.”

An Thanh Ward started building Red Cross houses for people with difficult housing circumstances.

“A piece of food when hungry is worth a package when full”, for many people, 50 million VND to repair a house is not much, but for poor households, this is extremely valuable. Ms. Nguyen Hong Chien, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Thieu Ward, said that this is an activity in response to the movement “Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses” nationwide and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Housing support helps poor households settle down, develop their family economy and contribute to local development.

Similarly, An Thanh ward has just started construction of houses for poor households and policy families in Thanh Hoa B and Thanh Loc quarters. The two families supported to build new houses are Mrs. Dao Thi To's family (a family with revolutionary contributions) and Mr. Vu Van Bo's family (a poor household), with a total support cost of 220 million VND; of which 120 million VND comes from the city's Gratitude Fund, 100 million VND is supported by the city's Red Cross Society and the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in An Thanh ward.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lan, President of the Red Cross Society of Thuan An City, said the program has humane meaning, hoping that families will soon have a decent home and a stable life.

Together, united

Along with the whole country and the whole province, Thuan An City has been mobilizing many resources to participate in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for policy families, poor households and near-poor households in the area. Accordingly, many movements and models to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses have been widely deployed, mobilizing the entire political system, people and businesses to participate.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Vice Chairwoman of Thuan An City People's Committee, said that based on the province's plan, on March 14, 2025, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan An City issued Official Dispatch No. 57/MTTQ-BTT to the city's agencies, organizations, units, schools, and businesses in the city regarding the support for the Fund for the Poor and funding for the program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in 2025. As a result, by April 8, the City's Fund for the Poor had mobilized more than 1.7 billion VND; of which support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses was over 530 million VND. In phase 1 (before June 30), the city had 8 households in need of support to build and repair houses; of which 3 were newly built and 5 were repaired. To date, the city has started repairing 3 houses and building 3 new houses, with a total cost of 350 million VND. For poor households, near-poor households, and households with other especially difficult circumstances eligible for support in phase 1, there are 56 households; of which 18 houses are newly built and 38 houses are repaired.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien said that currently, Thuan An City still has policy households and meritorious people living in rented houses (8 households); poor households, near-poor households, and households in especially difficult circumstances who are not eligible for support (93 households); of which 4 households have shared land certificates, 89 households have no land or house. In these cases, the city will develop plans and solutions to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in phase 2.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is one of the practical activities, demonstrating the concern of the Party, State and community for difficult circumstances, contributing to the goal of poverty reduction and ensuring social security in Thuan An City.
