Sharing in the common joy

In recent days, there has been a lot of good news in Thuan An City. Families receiving social welfare benefits, as well as poor and near-poor individuals facing housing difficulties, have been continuously receiving support for new construction or renovation projects. A prime example is Lai Thieu ward, where the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee recently handed over solidarity houses to poor households, specifically Ms. Nguyen Loan Chi and Ms. Nguyen Thi Be. Both houses were renovated to the standard of a level 4 house, with tiled floors, corrugated iron roofs, and solid brick walls, at a total cost of 100 million VND, funded by the ward's "For the Poor" Fund.

Needless to say, they were overjoyed on the day they received their new house. Their old house had been dilapidated and leaky for a long time… Ms. Nguyen Loan Chi shared: “I’m so happy! Seeing the house renovated so nicely, I’m speechless. I thank the local government and benefactors for their concern.”

An Thanh Ward begins construction of Red Cross houses for people in difficult housing situations.

"A little help when you're hungry is worth more than a lot when you're full." For many, 50 million VND for house repairs may not seem like much, but for struggling households, it's invaluable. Ms. Nguyen Hong Chien, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Thieu Ward, stated that this activity is in response to the nationwide "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" movement and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification. This housing support helps poor households settle down, improve their family's economic situation , and contribute to local development.

Similarly, An Thanh ward recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of houses for poor households and families entitled to preferential policies in Thanh Hoa B and Thanh Loc neighborhoods. Two families received support for new housing: the family of Ms. Dao Thi To (a family with meritorious service to the revolution) and the family of Mr. Vu Van Bo (a poor household). The total support amounted to 220 million VND; of which 120 million VND came from the city's Gratitude Fund, and 100 million VND was provided by the City Red Cross and the Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in An Thanh ward.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lan, President of the Red Cross Society of Thuan An City, said that the program has humanitarian significance and hopes that the families will soon have decent homes and stable lives.

Working together in unity.

Along with the rest of the country and the province, Thuan An City has been mobilizing various resources to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for policy beneficiary families, poor households, and near-poor households in the area. Accordingly, many movements and models for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses have been widely implemented, mobilizing the entire political system, the people, and businesses to participate.

Accordingly, many movements and models for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses have been widely implemented, mobilizing the entire political system, the people, and businesses to participate...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuan An City, said that based on the provincial plan, on March 14, 2025, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan An City issued Official Letter No. 57/MTTQ-BTT to city agencies, organizations, units, schools, and businesses in the city regarding support for the Fund for the Poor and funding for the "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" program in 2025. As of April 8, the city's Fund for the Poor had raised over 1.7 billion VND; of which over 530 million VND was used to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses. In phase 1 (before June 30), the city had 8 households needing support for house construction and repair; including 3 new houses and 5 houses for repair. To date, the city has started the repair of 3 houses and the construction of 3 new houses, with a total expenditure of 350 million VND. For poor households, near-poor households, and other households with particularly difficult circumstances that meet the eligibility criteria for support in phase 1, there are 56 households; of which 18 will have new houses built and 38 will have houses repaired.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien stated that currently, Thuan An City still has policy beneficiary households and people with meritorious services living in rented houses (8 households); poor households, near-poor households, and households with particularly difficult circumstances who do not meet the eligibility criteria for support (93 households); of which 4 households have jointly registered land, and 89 households have neither land nor houses. For these cases, the city is developing plans and solutions to implement support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in phase 2.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is one of the practical activities demonstrating the concern of the Party, the State, and the community for those in difficult circumstances, contributing to the goal of poverty reduction and ensuring social security in Thuan An City.
