People's Artist Tran Thi Duyen of Phu Day passed away at the age of 95.

Ms. Tran Kim Hue (daughter of Ms. Tran Thi Duyen) said that NNND has gone through many ups and downs to preserve and promote the heritage of Mother Goddess worship. Ms. Duyen is also the one who has persistently practiced Mother Goddess worship even when this belief was considered superstitious and the Phu Day relic was still in ruins, not like it is now. "My mother devoted her whole life to preserving and passing on the values of the Mother Goddess worship heritage," Ms. Hue shared.

According to the artisan's profile kept at the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), NNND Tran Thi Duyen (also known as Ba Duc) was born in 1930, from Kim Thai commune, Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh . She is knowledgeable and proficient in practicing the intangible cultural heritage of the Vietnamese people's worship of the Mother Goddesses of the Three Realms. At the same time, she also possesses many skills, knowledge, and the background and achievements of the saints, and skillfully practices the questions in practicing the belief.

In 1946, Ms. Tran Thi Duyen followed the medium Tran Thi Duyet to learn ritual practices at Phu Tien Huong - Phu Day. In 1975, she was ordained as a master (a medium who opened a palace) to practice the Vietnamese belief in worshiping the Mother Goddess of the Three Palaces. From 1975 to 2017, she was the head priest of Tien Linh Temple and the head incense burner at Phu Tien Huong - Phu Day.

Also according to the artist’s profile, in 2014, Ms. Tran Thi Duyen participated in practicing and supporting the work of building the dossier on the Practice of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess Worship to submit to UNESCO. She has taught the practice of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess Worship to many generations of students. Among them, Ms. Duyen’s 3 typical students are: Ms. Tran Thi Hue, Tran Thi Lan and Vu Thanh Binh.

The file also stated that when consulting on her receiving the title of People's Artist, the community and the votes of the provincial council both reached 100% consensus.

In 2022, Ms. Tran Thi Duyen was awarded the title of People's Heroby the President . She was also awarded the Second Class Resistance Medal and the Third Class Resistance Medal.
