Up to this point, Hanoi is the locality that has decided to give students the shortest Lunar New Year holiday compared to many other localities that have already announced their holiday schedules. While most provinces and cities give students more than 10 days off, Hanoi is giving them only 8 days.

Hanoi students will have an 8-day Lunar New Year holiday.

Specifically, on January 9th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced that the Tet holiday for students and teachers of kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational education centers - continuing education centers, and the School for Training Education Officials will be 8 days, from February 7th to 14th (i.e., from the 28th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit to the end of the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon).

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training explained that experience from previous years shows that the Tet holiday for students must be consistent with the holiday schedule of civil servants and public employees in the area. If students are given an extended holiday while parents have to return to work earlier, it will lead to difficulties in childcare, especially for preschool and primary school children.

Meanwhile, students from preschool to high school in Ho Chi Minh City will have a Lunar New Year holiday from February 5th to 18th (i.e., from the 26th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit to the 9th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon). Including the weekends before and after the holiday period, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 16 days off.

Similarly, according to a decision by the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, students in this province will have a 16-day Tet holiday, from February 3rd to 18th.

In Kien Giang and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces, preschool, primary, and secondary school students, as well as students in continuing education programs, will have a two-week Tet holiday break, from February 5th to 18th.

Students and teachers in Vinh Phuc will have an 11-day Lunar New Year holiday, from February 8th to 18th. Students in Ha Tinh will have a holiday from February 6th to 18th, totaling 13 days.

The Lunar New Year holiday for students in Long An province in 2024 will last 11 days, from February 4th to 14th.

In Can Tho, students and teachers will have Tet holiday from February 5th to 14th. A separate announcement will be made regarding the duration of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay Tet holiday for Khmer ethnic minority students and teachers.

The People's Committees of Quang Ninh, Kon Tum, and Tra Vinh provinces have stipulated that the Tet holiday will be from February 5th to 17th.

The People's Committee of Gia Lai province has stipulated that the Tet holiday for preschool, primary, secondary, and continuing education will be from February 5th to 18th. Dak Nong province will allow students to take a Tet holiday from February 7th to 18th.

According to the framework plan for the 2023-2024 school year issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the school year schedule for localities, issued by the Provincial People's Committee, must be consistent with the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality. Public holidays and Tet holidays are observed according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.

The Ministry of Education and Training also outlined the principles for developing the school year schedule in localities as follows: for preschool and general education, there are 35 weeks of actual learning (18 weeks in the first semester and 17 weeks in the second semester). For continuing education (implementing the lower secondary and upper secondary education programs).

For grades 9 and 12, there are 32 weeks of schooling (16 weeks per semester). For grades 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11, there are 35 weeks of schooling (18 weeks in the first semester and 17 weeks in the second semester).

Students finish the first semester before January 15th, complete the second semester's educational plan before May 25th, and end the school year before May 31st.

The process of certifying completion of the primary school program and granting junior high school graduation certificates should be completed before June 30th, and enrollment for the first-year classes should be completed before July 31st.
