The Sports Festival, held every four years, is an opportunity to evaluate the sports movement at the grassroots level, discover new talents for high-performance sports , and motivate people to participate in training. In other words, the festival is the city's biggest sports event.
According to the plan, communes and wards are organized into 28 clusters to form delegations of athletes to participate in the Games. Each cluster prepares a parade force of 51 people to participate in the opening ceremony and registers to compete in at least 15 out of the 20 sports of the Games. This is a requirement to ensure the scale and professional quality of the city-level sports festival.
It is noteworthy that many localities are making efforts to participate. The representative of Ninh Kieu ward, head of cluster 1, said that the units in the cluster have agreed to divide their strengths to participate in all 20 competitions. Similarly, Thot Not ward said that the units in the cluster are balancing resources to ensure full participation in all registered events.
However, it's important to recognize that not all localities have the same conditions. After administrative reorganization, the area is larger, the distances are greater, and the number of athletes needing to be mobilized is higher. Meanwhile, funding for grassroots sports is already limited, and the socialization of sports in many places remains restricted, especially in rural areas.
Representatives from Phong Dien commune requested that the city consider providing financial support to participating delegations as well as the units hosting the competitions. According to the local authorities, despite many difficulties, participating in the Games is a shared responsibility, and the units are still striving to fulfill their duties. Notably, representatives from Thoi Lai commune proposed that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism advise the City People's Committee to allocate an additional 200-300 million VND to each cluster to ensure the successful completion of their participation in the Games.
Localities in the former Hau Giang and Soc Trang regions also reported similar difficulties. Funding is an issue that needs to be addressed to ensure the goal of expanding the mass sports movement and creating conditions for equal participation among localities.
Amateur sports are not a field that generates direct revenue. The value they bring lies in public health, social cohesion, and resources for future high-performance sports. These values are difficult to measure in monetary terms, but without funding, many activities cannot be fully implemented.
