VHO - On May 30th in Hanoi , the British Council Vietnam, the Center for Research and Promotion of Cultural Heritage Values (the Center), and the Vietnam Women's Museum jointly organized an Exhibition & Talk show on the theme "Connecting Community Heritage".

In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tang, Director of the Center, shared that in 2025, the Center will receive support from the British Council in Vietnam in providing financial and technical assistance for 9 projects to protect and promote the value of community cultural heritage proposed by individuals and organizations in various localities across Vietnam.
At the "Connecting Community Heritage" Exhibition and Talk Show, the Center presented many vivid examples of the connection between tradition and modernity, which are the initial results of the aforementioned efforts.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tang, each project demonstrates close cooperation and collaboration between artisans and heritage practitioners in communities with researchers, designers, art creators, museums, academies, universities, students, and passionate individuals both domestically and internationally.
This opens up new perspectives and opportunities for heritage to continue to live and spread more strongly. The Community Heritage Connection event is expected to open up deep and high-quality dialogues, with strong commitments, especially practical actions, to ensure that cultural heritage continues to be protected, developed, and adapted sustainably in contemporary life.

At the event, the exhibition introduced three projects to the public: an exhibition on the project to enhance the capacity of Mong women in Pa Co, Mai Chau, Hoa Binh through traditional handicraft techniques, implemented by the Vietnam Women's Museum in collaboration with the London Academy of Design and Fashion .
This project introduces a collection of products combining traditional dyeing and beeswax pattern-painting techniques from student designs, aiming to enhance the applicability of handcrafted products and meet consumer needs. Simultaneously, the project hopes to improve the livelihoods of the local community, especially women.

The Photovoice Project exhibition – documenting the local culture of the Thai people in Hoa Tien village – presents vivid and authentic glimpses of life through the eyes of 10 young children, showcasing the life, culture, and heritage of their homeland in the Thai village of Hoa Tien, Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, Nghe An province.
The exhibition "Restoring the Silkworm-Covering Technique" in Hoa Tien village, Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, Nghe An province, showcases ancient woven fabrics and collaborative products between artisans and designers. It also explores the cultural stories behind each pattern, from "hands turning into patterns to hands turning into flowers," through interaction with the artisans.

As part of the program, the talk show " Connecting Community Heritage" will feature the participation of... Experts, researchers, artisans, and project leaders share and convey diverse aspects of cultural heritage from a creative perspective.
Affirming the irreplaceable role of the community in preserving and promoting heritage values, Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly, Vice President of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, raised the question: Where does the community play a role? Where can we meet the community? How can we connect with them?


The projects on display and the stories that demonstrate the relentless creativity in building upon the heritage of our ancestors will contribute to connecting heritage communities with the creative arts community, leveraging cultural heritage for artistic development and sustainable livelihoods.

This will promote a collaborative approach between heritage communities and individuals and organizations in heritage protection by leveraging it as a resource, integrating it with creative design, strengthening its vitality, enhancing its image, and contributing to livelihood development.
The exhibition "Connecting Community Heritage" will be open to the public for two days, May 30-31, at the Vietnam Women's Museum (36 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi).
