With a core membership of nearly 39,000 high school students and over 5,000 university students, schools in the province are fertile ground for nurturing "red seeds" (ideologically sound individuals). Therefore, in recent times, many units and localities have done well in creating and developing Party membership among students, contributing to building an outstanding workforce.
Continuing the power supply circuit
Our Party has always paid attention to the work of developing Party members, especially among Youth Union members, young people, students, and university students. This aims to strengthen the building of a team of young Party members with good qualifications, intelligence, and moral character, contributing to creating a source of successor cadres to supplement the country's intellectual ranks, ensuring the continuity and development of the Party.
Currently, Binh Thuan province has 1 university, 1 college, 1 vocational school, and 28 high schools. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the total number of students in the province was 44,232; including 38,993 students and 5,239 university students. Over the years, the work of developing Party membership among students in the province has received attention and guidance from Party committees, units, and schools at all levels, with many solutions implemented to create a pool of potential Party members. Youth organizations and associations have been cared for and provided with favorable conditions for more vibrant and effective activities to attract, gather, educate , and mobilize members, students, and pupils to learn about the Party. This helps to identify and select positive individuals among cadres, members, and the general public, as well as influential people, to be considered for Party membership. Thanks to the efforts and determination, from the 2020-2021 school year to the 2022-2023 school year, the entire province had 1,724 students and pupils sent by Party branches and committees to participate in Party awareness training courses, and 259 student and pupil Party members were admitted (including 213 high school students and 46 university students).
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep – Secretary of the Party Committee and Principal of Phan Boi Chau High School (Phan Thiet City) – stated that Phan Boi Chau High School, with over 70 years of formation and development, has achieved many important milestones, one of which was the establishment of the first Party branch in 1972 with 3 student members. Building on this proud tradition of "patriotism and revolution," the Party Committee of Phan Boi Chau High School has consistently prioritized Party development among students, considering it a crucial political task and achieving commendable results. In the last three years, the Party Committee has admitted 33 new Party members, including 18 student members. Each year, the school's Youth Union selects 15 to 25 outstanding members for the Party Committee to send to Party awareness training courses. To achieve these results, the school has strengthened revolutionary ideals education, raised awareness, and identified pure motives for students to strive to join the Party; organized diverse programs, movements, and activities to create a vibrant and engaging practical environment for students to participate in, thereby identifying and selecting positive individuals for further development. At the same time, it has focused on identifying, nurturing, and promoting exemplary individuals and good deeds among students. “We proactively identify and nurture outstanding individuals. The school's Youth Union seeks out sources to train, cultivate, and ‘nurture’ potential students from grades 10 and 11, while also expanding to include many other groups such as outstanding students in academics, volunteer activities, and in the fields of culture, arts, physical education, and sports… From there, we introduce them to the Party Committee, which assigns Party members who are homeroom teachers and subject teachers to monitor, assist, and encourage these students to be exemplary, strive for excellence in their studies, mature in character, and independently determine the right motivation and aspiration to join the ranks of the Party,” Mr. Hiep shared.
Also during the period from 2021 to the present, the Party Committee of Binh Thuan College has admitted 73 new Party members, including 45 students. This achievement is thanks to the fact that, annually, based on the Party membership recruitment targets assigned by the higher level, the Party Committee of the college has concretized the tasks assigned to the Party branches. Party Branch 6, in particular, is responsible for areas of work related to students and is primarily responsible for coordinating with the school's Youth Union to gather forces, create opportunities for testing and training young union members, and select and recommend the most outstanding student union members to the Party. Assigning the specialized Party branch and the school's Youth Union to be responsible for developing new Party members among students also has certain advantages in gathering forces, fostering awareness, and creating opportunities for training; helping to ensure that the process of monitoring and supporting prospective Party members is regular, continuous, and comprehensive.
Focus on building and creating a successor generation.
Despite achieving outstanding results, the work of developing Party membership among students still faces difficulties and shortcomings. These include insufficient attention to leadership and guidance from some Party committees, organizations, and leaders; a lack of focus on assigning targets to organizations and associations for developing Party members among students, resulting in a number that does not match the existing potential. In particular, some schools did not recruit any student Party members for three years (2021-2023); some schools, while having recruited students into the Party, still have low rates and have not met the targets set by higher-level Party committees. Many places are still struggling with assigning and monitoring probationary Party members; identifying and assisting outstanding individuals to join the Party; and carrying out the procedures for admitting new Party members…
Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nam, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Department, stated that identifying Party development among students is a correct direction, both urgent in the short term and strategic in the long term, in line with the current practical situation. Therefore, he requested that district, town, and city Party committees, Party committees directly under the province, and all levels of Party committees and organizations uphold their responsibilities, focusing on consolidating and improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of grassroots Party organizations, especially those in schools; regularly paying attention to the education, identification, and development of Party members among outstanding students who aspire to join the Party, considering this a key task to supplement the young human resources for the Party and the political system at all levels in the short and long term. "Party committees at all levels, especially at the grassroots level, need to focus on leading and directing the surveying, evaluation, and analysis of the quality of outstanding students to develop a plan for recruiting new Party members for the entire term and annually. Creating a favorable environment for students to develop ideals, have pure motives, and strive to join the Party," the Head of the Organization Department emphasized.
According to the Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Department, it is also necessary to further strengthen the education of ethics, lifestyle, revolutionary traditions, patriotism, national pride, and revolutionary spirit; promote "Learning and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh," thereby enlightening students and raising their awareness to strive to join the ranks of the Party.
It can be said that recruiting Party members among students aims to awaken the desire for contribution from young people and spread love for their homeland. To achieve this, the entire political system of the province must participate. Accordingly, the work of developing Party members among students must be seen as a continuous and ongoing process, filling the "gaps" to avoid disruption; the recruitment process must be adapted to the characteristics and nature of students. Choosing the right time to recruit and considering this a particularly important task to be carried out in the coming period is crucial.
