Former principal of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine resigns

TPO - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has approved the resignation of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep, former Principal of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, from September 8, 2025. Previously, Mr. Hiep was disciplined with a warning for lax management in personnel work.

On September 8, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health issued a decision to allow Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep (49 years old), former Principal of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, to resign according to his personal wishes.

The Department Office was assigned to coordinate with relevant units to complete procedures and ensure benefits for Mr. Hiep after he leaves work.

In April 2025, Mr. Hiep was disciplined with a warning by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Inspection Commission for lax leadership and lack of supervision, leading to many violations in the school's personnel work. After that, Mr. Hiep resigned from the position of principal but remained an official of the Department of Health.

Mr. Hiep has been the Principal of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine since October 2020 and has made many contributions to training and COVID-19 prevention.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dang Thoai to be in charge of all leadership, management and financial transactions of the school, replacing the principal until a new appointment is made. The Chairman of the School Council is Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao - former Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital.
