Bac Ninh calls on pioneering businesses to invest in green energy

Recently, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province organized a workshop on developing self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power sources, attracting the participation of representatives of the Department of Industry and Trade, departments, businesses and financial institutions.

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Ninh Nguyen Minh Hieu said that the development of renewable energy, including rooftop solar power, is an inevitable trend, in line with the National orientation on energy transition and the NetZero commitment by 2050. "Bac Ninh province is an industrial province with a fast growth rate, ensuring energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing production costs for businesses is an extremely important task," Mr. Hieu emphasized.

According to statistics, Bac Ninh currently has about 6,800 hectares of factory roofs, which is a great potential for developing rooftop solar power. In August 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued an open letter calling on organizations and businesses to join hands in developing rooftop solar power, aiming to reach 3,392 MW of capacity by 2026. The "self-production - self-consumption" model not only helps businesses proactively supply, reduce the load on the national grid, but also demonstrates social responsibility in environmental protection.

However, the implementation process still faces some difficulties related to policy mechanisms, technical standards, fire prevention and fighting and access to capital. At the workshop, representatives of the Electricity Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) provided guidance and dissemination of legal regulations, and listened to and directly answered questions from localities and businesses. In addition, businesses, banks and credit institutions also introduced many technical and financial solutions such as design and installation of solar panels, green credit models to support investment in self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power. Many practical experiences in installation, operation and management of the system were also shared to promote the widespread development of this model.

Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thinh affirmed that the rapid economic growth has led to a sharp increase in Bac Ninh's electricity demand. The Department of Industry and Trade, as the permanent focal agency, presides over and closely coordinates with relevant departments and branches to proactively guide and promptly remove all obstacles, shortening the time to handle administrative procedures in the implementation of rooftop solar power.

“Urgently develop a plan to develop rooftop solar power in the province, assigning specific targets to each enterprise, especially large electricity-using enterprises in the area, requiring registration to use self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power, and including it in the annual assessment criteria. Thereby, contributing to the completion of the goal of developing 3,392 MW of rooftop solar power by 2026, making an important contribution to ensuring energy security, promoting the cause of industrialization, green and sustainable modernization of the province”, said the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province.

On the business community side, Mr. Pham Van Thinh encouraged pioneering units to invest in the rooftop solar power model - considering this a key strategy to enhance green competitiveness, reduce operating costs and meet increasingly strict export standards of international markets. "Self-production, self-consumption" not only helps businesses proactively source electricity, reduce the load on the national grid, but also demonstrates social responsibility in environmental protection.

At the end of the workshop, the provincial leaders called on businesses, agencies, units and offices in the area to participate in the rooftop solar power installation movement, striving to complete the Government's assigned targets in 2026. With a strategic vision, open policies and the support of the whole society, Bac Ninh aims to become the leading locality in the country in developing renewable energy, contributing to bringing Vietnam forward quickly on the journey of green energy transition, for a sustainable development future.
