Farmers in Chieng Coi are excitedly harvesting coffee.

Chieng Coi currently has over 2,400 hectares of coffee plantations, making it one of the localities with the largest coffee growing area in the province, with an annual production of over 23,000 tons of fresh coffee cherries. These days, across the hillsides and coffee plantations of the ward, the landscape is ablaze with the red color of ripe cherries, and the atmosphere of harvesting is bustling and lively, promising a bountiful coffee harvest.

Coffee plantations are in the harvesting season in Hoang Van Thu village, Chieng Coi ward.

In Hun village, a major coffee-growing area of ​​the ward, people are busy harvesting coffee cherries everywhere. Ms. Tong Thi Hoa, with nimble hands, excitedly said: "My family grows 2 hectares of coffee. Thanks to good care, this year the cherries are large and uniform. We estimate a harvest of over 18 tons of fresh cherries, and with the current selling price of around 30,000 VND/kg, my family could earn over 500 million VND this season."

Officials from Chiềng Cơi ward are guiding local people on harvesting coffee according to proper technical standards.

Mr. Tong Van Yen, Deputy Secretary of the Party branch and Head of Hun village, informed: The entire village currently has 228 households growing coffee with a total area of ​​175 hectares, and this year's yield is estimated at 9-10 tons of fresh fruit per hectare. Currently in the peak harvest season, many households have to hire additional laborers to pick coffee. Coffee cultivation has helped the villagers improve their living standards, with an average per capita income of over 60 million VND per year.

From the villages of Hun, Hom, Muong Yen, Ot Noi, Ot Luong to Hoang Van Thu village, well-built houses have sprung up alongside lush green coffee plantations. Many households that were once poor have now become well-off, with some families building multi-story houses, buying cars, and other household items. The lives of the people of Chieng Coi are changing day by day thanks to coffee cultivation.

In Hoang Van Thu village, on the vast coffee-growing hillsides, villagers are busily harvesting clusters of ripe red coffee berries, creating a bustling harvest scene. Leading us on a tour of the coffee plantations in full bloom, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Party Secretary and Village Head, excitedly shared: "100% of the households in the village grow coffee, covering 68 hectares, including 7 households and a cooperative involved in purchasing and processing. This year, coffee prices have increased significantly, and yields have reached over 10 tons per hectare. Thanks to growing, purchasing, and processing coffee, many households in the village earn hundreds of millions of dong, and some even reach several billion dong per year."

Ms. Dao Thi Tham, a long-time coffee farmer in Hoang Van Thu village, shared: "My family has been growing 3 hectares of coffee since 1996. Thanks to coffee, our economy is much more stable. This year, with good prices, our estimated income is around 700 million VND."

The main coffee variety grown in Chiềng Cơi ward is Catimor.

Bich Thao Son La Coffee Cooperative, located in Hoang Van Thu village, is a large-scale coffee cultivation and procurement cooperative in Chieng Coi ward and the province, specializing in high-quality coffee varieties. Currently, the cooperative has over 60 hectares of THA1 specialty coffee grown organically, meeting export standards. In addition, the cooperative collaborates with over 800 households and cooperatives in the province, forming a raw material area of ​​over 1,000 hectares. This year, the cooperative has invested in upgrading its coffee bean processing and export production line from 20-40 tons to 60-80 tons of coffee beans per day.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thao, Director of Bich Thao Son La Coffee Cooperative, said: Thanks to favorable weather conditions, the 2025-2026 crop year will see both a good harvest and good prices for coffee. The cooperative expects to export 2,000-4,000 tons of green coffee beans at prices ranging from 185,000 to 190,000 VND/kg; including approximately 120 tons of specialty coffee, priced between 250,000 and 320,000 VND/kg. The cooperative's production and business activities also provide stable employment for 50-60 seasonal workers, with an average income of over 15 million VND per person per month.

Bich Thao Son La Coffee Cooperative has invested in a preliminary processing and processing line for green coffee beans.

To improve the quality and value of coffee, the People's Committee of Chieng Coi ward has directed local organizations, businesses, and cooperatives to guide people in harvesting coffee beans according to proper procedures; and has intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage households to sign contracts with businesses and cooperatives for product procurement and distribution. Simultaneously, Chieng Coi ward has coordinated with the communes and wards of Chieng Sinh, Chieng Mai, Chieng Mung, and the Water and Environmental Monitoring Center under the Department of Agriculture and Environment to inspect wastewater discharge during coffee processing in the four communes and wards; issued directives requiring agricultural processing facilities to strictly comply with environmental protection regulations and treat waste according to technical standards; and resolutely detected, prevented, and handled violations in production and processing activities.

Chiềng Cơi ward, in coordination with other communes and wards, inspected the water quality of the stream section used for preliminary coffee processing within the ward's territory.

Mr. Doan Xuan Thi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Coi Ward, affirmed: For many years, coffee cultivation has been bringing clear economic benefits, helping many households to become wealthy. This year, the average price of fresh coffee reached 25,000 VND/kg, sometimes even reaching 31,000 VND/kg. If the price remains stable until the end of the season, coffee growers will have a successful harvest.

This year's coffee harvest has been bountiful and prices have been favorable, opening up new hope and confidence for coffee growers in Chiềng Cơi. Coffee continues to assert its position as a key crop helping people prosper right on their homeland.
