This year's winter-spring crop season in Nam Hang commune saw 289.7 hectares of rice planted (reaching 100% of the plan). This represents a significant effort by the commune, given the unfavorable weather conditions at the beginning of the season, including severe cold and prolonged rain that affected production progress. Thanks to the close guidance of the local government and the proactive efforts of the people, planting was still carried out within the correct timeframe, creating a favorable foundation for rice growth.

To achieve these results, Nam Hang commune proactively developed a specific production plan, outlining the planting schedule for each village. Professional staff regularly visited the area, guiding farmers from land preparation and seed selection to planting techniques. The irrigation system was inspected and repaired promptly, ensuring a stable water supply. In addition, pest and disease control measures were implemented, helping to minimize risks from the beginning of the season.

Farmers in Nam Hang commune inspect water levels and check for pests and diseases affecting the winter-spring rice crop.

Mr. Mai Van Thang, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Nam Hang Commune, said: To ensure that the rice crop in the commune develops well and achieves high yields, before the winter-spring rice season, the Commune People's Committee directs the residential groups and villages to mobilize people to clear the field embankments and prepare water sources for planting. At the same time, they guide farmers to properly care for the rice crop, such as applying fertilizer, spraying herbicides and pesticides according to the correct procedures and techniques. When detecting signs of disease in the rice plants, they should immediately report to the commune authorities for timely treatment.

The crop structure continues to be selected to suit the local conditions. Key rice varieties such as BC15, Khau Can Hac, TBR97, Dai Thom 8, Huong Thom… are introduced into production, ensuring both yield and market demand. Simultaneously, farmers maintain traditional rice varieties and local glutinous rice varieties.

A notable highlight of this year's production is the application of integrated crop health management (IPHM) to rice cultivation. After participating in training courses in 2025, several households boldly applied the method to their production. Initially, this method has shown positive results, with improved rice growth, increased grain count per ear, and reduced reliance on pesticides, moving towards safe and sustainable production.

In the fields, farmers have completed thinning and replanting, ensuring a uniform rice density; they have also proactively weeded and cleaned the fields. Thanks to proper care techniques, the entire rice crop is growing steadily at this time. This is the result of proactive pest and disease control combined with the use of high-quality seeds. This winter-spring season, the people of Nam Nhun residential area planted 19 hectares of rice. By strictly adhering to the planting schedule and selecting suitable seeds, the entire area was planted according to plan. Currently, the rice is developing uniformly, and farmers are focusing on caring for it and monitoring for pests and diseases.

Local people received training on the application of integrated plant health management (IPHM) techniques in rice cultivation.

Mr. Lo Van Sieng, head of the Nam Nhun residential group, said: "Right from the beginning of the season, the group mobilized the people to prepare sufficient seeds and materials, and to plant on schedule, so the planting progress has been ensured. To date, the rice is growing well, and no pests or diseases have appeared; the people hope that this season will yield a higher harvest than last year."

From the initial results, it can be seen that rice production in Nam Hang is gradually shifting towards a more proactive, safe, and efficient approach. In the coming time, the local government will continue to strengthen its guidance and support for the people in caring for the crop, controlling pests and diseases, and replicating advanced production models, striving for a successful winter-spring rice crop.
