Director Dao Trong Khanh's wife confirmed to VietNamNet that he passed away early in the afternoon of September 20, at the age of 84. The family is choosing a date and will soon announce the time of the funeral for director Dao Trong Khanh.

Director Dao Trong Khanh had been ill for a long time, but the news of his passing still surprised many people. Director Trinh Quang Tung shared that he had just visited director Dao Trong Khanh yesterday, so when VietNamNet reported the news, he did not believe it was true because everything happened so quickly.

Director Dao Trong Khanh was born in 1940 in Hai Phong . He studied screenwriting at the Academy of Theatre and Cinema, and spent his entire life writing scripts and directing documentaries. With his vast knowledge and abundant writing ability, at the age of 80, People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh still published the memoir Land and People.

In a career spanning more than half a century, he has achieved many successes in the field of documentary filmmaking. People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh has won nearly 20 awards, including 7 individual awards (3 for screenplay, 4 for best director).

In 2007, People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh was awarded the State Prize for a series of documentaries including: 1/50 seconds of life, Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh , Tra Kieu dancer, True legend, Ancestor's shadow, Ho Chi Minh - his image.
