Director Dao Trong Khanh was born in 1940 in Hai Phong. He studied screenwriting at the Academy of Theatre and Cinema, and spent his entire life writing scripts and directing documentaries. With his vast knowledge and abundant writing ability, at the age of 80, People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh still published the memoir Land and People.
In a career spanning more than half a century, he has won many achievements in the field of documentary filmmaking. People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh has won nearly 20 awards, including 7 personal awards (3 for best screenplay, 4 for best director).
In 2007, People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh was awarded the State Prize for a series of documentaries including: 1/50 Seconds of Life, Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh, Tra Kieu Dancer, Truthful Legend, Ancestor's Shadow, Ho Chi Minh - His Image.
