People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh has passed away.

The wife of director Dao Trong Khanh confirmed to VietNamNet that he passed away in the early afternoon of September 20th, at the age of 84. The family is choosing a date and will soon announce the time for the funeral service for director Dao Trong Khanh.

Director Dao Trong Khanh had been ill for a long time, but the news of his passing still came as a shock to many. Director Trinh Quang Tung shared that he had just visited Director Dao Trong Khanh yesterday, so when VietNamNet reported the news, he couldn't believe it was true because everything happened so quickly.

Director Dao Trong Khanh was born in 1940 in Hai Phong . He studied screenwriting at the School of Theater and Film, and throughout his life he has only written scripts and directed documentary films. With his vast knowledge and abundant writing ability, at the age of 80, People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh still published a collection of memoirs titled "Land and People".

Throughout his career spanning over half a century, he achieved numerous accomplishments in the field of documentary filmmaking. People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh has nearly 20 awards, including 7 individual awards (3 for best screenplay, 4 for best director).

In 2007, People's Artist Dao Trong Khanh was awarded the State Prize for his series of documentary films including: 1/50 Second of Life, Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh , Tra Kieu Dancer, Legend of the Truth, Image of Our Ancestors, and Ho Chi Minh - The Image of Him.
