Luu Thanh Vy graduated from the Marketing Management department of the National Economics University in Hanoi and is currently pursuing a master's degree. She has only one year left to complete her course and defend her master's thesis, but she has requested a temporary suspension. She explained that if she finishes her thesis, she will be too old to enlist in the military.
Vy's friends and many relatives believed that the military environment was harsh and unsuitable for a petite girl like her. Temporarily suspending her master's program could cost Vy many job opportunities. However, Luu Thanh Vy was determined to enlist.

"My family is my motivation for volunteering for military service. My father is a veteran, and since I was little, I've loved the green color of the uniform he always wore. I've heard many stories about soldiers and the heroic traditions of our ancestors. Since I was a child, I've dreamed of wearing that green military uniform," Vy said.
Military service will be the most memorable years of my youth.
In a conversation with young recruits, People's Armed Forces Hero and Labor Hero Pham Tuan recounted stories and memories of the arduous but glorious sacrifices he made during his time in the military.
Young people were moved by the story of the pilot of the MiG-21, a national treasure proudly displayed at the Vietnam Military History Museum. The aircraft, with 14 stars on its fuselage (symbolizing the 14 victories achieved by the 921st Regiment in shooting down enemy aircraft), is one of the most famous MiG-21s in history.
He advised: "Each person has their own path to contribute to the country. You are about to enter the military environment, where your character and willpower will be honed. Consider this a valuable asset for the future."

Colonel Luu Nam Tien, head of political affairs at the Hanoi Capital Command, said that time in the military will be a difficult and challenging period for young people.
Many of them are away from their families for the first time, having to change their eating habits, sleeping patterns, and daily routines, but they also feel honored and proud to be "soldiers of Uncle Ho."
"This will undoubtedly be the most memorable and meaningful period in your lives," Mr. Tien said.
In 2025, Hanoi will have 4,485 citizens enlisting in the armed forces, including 3,885 young people performing military service and 600 citizens joining the People's Public Security Force. Notably, 2,150 of the new recruits are Party members, and 960 have a vocational school diploma or higher.
