Martin Odegaard remains the captain of Arsenal. |
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Martin Odegaard will continue to wear the Arsenal captain's armband following a vote just before the Premier League opening match on August 17th at Old Trafford. This decision was announced just one day after former captain Tony Adams called for the armband to be returned to Declan Rice.
“Yesterday’s voting results showed a huge, almost unanimous margin: everyone chose the same person – Martin Odegaard,” Arteta emphasized. “This is the clearest indication of who the players trust to lead, protect, elevate, and help the team win. Most importantly, they feel they have someone there for them in difficult times, someone who gives them peace of mind and represents the club every time they step onto the pitch.”
Entering the match under considerable pressure, Arteta placed high expectations on new signing Viktor Gyokeres. “We have to understand him and create an environment where he can reach his full potential. Many strikers from other leagues have succeeded in the Premier League. Our job is to create the right context for Viktor to do what he does best – score goals,” the Spanish manager affirmed.
