Mr. Dao Tu, Deputy Head of the Management Board and Deputy Head of the Dharma Propagation Board of Salatel, Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa Commune, happily said: “Thanks to the Party and the State's attention and investment in the road, the lives of the people here have clearly improved. With the road, people are more confident in investing in crop cultivation and livestock farming, thus increasing their income. This year, the salatel – a place of religious activity for the Khmer people – has also been renovated and is much more spacious, and I and the people are very happy.”
Mr. Dao Tu decorated the area where Buddha is worshipped.
Ms. Danh Thi Can, from Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa Commune, said: “This year, the lives of the people in the hamlet have improved, so the Tet celebration is more lively than in previous years. My family has prepared everything for our traditional Tet, making cakes and jams to eat during the Tet holidays when our children and grandchildren gather together.”
In Khanh Hoa commune, implementing the project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area, the commune has focused on and supported the construction of 7 houses for ethnic minority households in Hamlet 6, using funds from the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority areas. To date, the houses have been completed and put into use, allowing the people to celebrate Tet in their new homes.
Ms. Ly Thi Phuong, from Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa Commune, shared: “I am almost 60 years old, live alone, and have a disability in my leg. Every day I do odd jobs to make ends meet, and I'm happy just to earn enough to support myself; I don't have money to build a house. Now, thanks to the Party and the State's support of 60 million VND to build a new, spacious house, I am very happy. With a new house, I celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year with more joy than in previous years.”
The Khmer people in Hamlet 6, Khanh Lam Commune, are also eagerly awaiting the New Year. This year, in addition to the investment in a new road and new salatel (a type of irrigation canal), the Khmer people here have also just finished harvesting their winter-spring rice crop with the joy of a bountiful harvest, so the atmosphere of celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) is even more vibrant than in previous years.
Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, from Hamlet 6, Khanh Lam Commune, said: “The recent winter-spring rice crop was bountiful, and my family made a good profit. After the rice harvest, I went to work on a construction site to earn extra income. Hard work throughout the year has resulted in a decent amount of savings, so celebrating the traditional Lunar New Year this year is more exciting.”
Thanks to the State's attention and investment in transportation infrastructure, the lives of the Khmer ethnic minority people in U Minh district are improving day by day.
In recent days, various levels and sectors of the province and districts have organized numerous delegations to visit, give gifts, and extend New Year greetings for the Khmer ethnic minority in the area on the occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay. On April 9th, a delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province visited and extended New Year greetings to the Khmer people in Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa commune.
Ms. Son Thi Tien, from Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa Commune, said: “Besides wishing a Happy New Year, the provincial delegation also visited and presented gifts to poor and disadvantaged Khmer people in the hamlet. In the new year, thanks to the Party and State's attention and the gift worth 500,000 VND, my family has better conditions to celebrate a more prosperous and fulfilling Tet.”
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of U Minh District, said: “In addition to coordinating with the Khmer Art Troupe of the province to organize cultural performances for the people, during Tet (Lunar New Year), the district and agencies, units, and localities also organize visits, New Year greetings, and gift-giving to policy beneficiary families, families of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, heroes of the armed forces, people who have contributed to the country, single-parent families, poor and near-poor households, and influential people among ethnic minorities in general, and the Khmer people in particular; and support areas with a large Khmer population in organizing Tet celebrations. Through this, we demonstrate the concern of the Party and the State for the Khmer people, creating favorable conditions for them to celebrate Tet in a spirit of unity, joy, warmth, safety, and economy.”
