The results of the Turkish elections on May 28th show that Tayyip Erdogan and the ruling AKP party will continue to lead Türkiye for another five years.

On May 28, Ahmet Ener, head of Türkiye's Supreme Electoral Council (CEC), announced that based on preliminary results, incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had won the second round of the presidential election.
The official stated: “99.43% of the votes cast domestically and abroad have been counted. Tayyip Erdogan received 52.14% of the votes, and Kemal Kilicdaroglu 47.86%. The gap between the candidates is currently 2.253 million votes. The 809,000 uncounted votes will not affect the result, even if all of them went to one of the candidates. Therefore, according to preliminary calculations, Erdogan has been elected President of Türkiye.”
On the same day, this politician 's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) also won the recent parliamentary elections.
For his part, speaking to supporters in Istanbul, Erdogan said: “We will govern the country for another five years. We have completed the second round of the presidential election with the support of our country. I want to express my gratitude to my country for giving us a democratic day. The winners of both the May 14th and May 28th elections are all 85 million of our citizens.”
Meanwhile, candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu affirmed that he would “continue to fight.” He argued that despite the pressure, “the people’s desire for change at the government level is clear.”
Meanwhile, writing on Twitter shortly after the results of the Turkish presidential election were announced, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated: “Germany and Turkey are close partners and allies. We are also closely linked socially and economically . Congratulations to President Erdogan on his re-election. Now, together we want to advance our shared agenda with renewed momentum.”
Russia, Qatar, Libya, Algeria, Hungary, Iran, and Palestine also sent congratulations on Erdogan's victory.
