The committee alleged an “ongoing electoral coup,” citing serious reasons including direct interference from the U.S., pressure from domestic criminal organizations, and egregious technical irregularities in the electoral process.
Speaking at a press conference in Tegucigalpa, Honduran Congress President Luis Redondo declared that the electoral process had been “tainted by pressure from within organized crime structures involved in drug trafficking, gangs such as MS-13 and Barrio 18, and others.”

However, the most controversial reason given was the direct interference from US President Donald Trump. The committee pointed out that within 72 hours before the election, Trump publicly posted two messages on social media (November 26 and 28) expressing support for conservative candidate Nasry Asfura and threatening to cut aid to Honduras.
According to the Commission, these actions created pressure, spread misinformation, and engaged in economic coercion, thereby “altering the exercise of free voting rights” of the people and giving Mr. Asfura an unfair advantage.
The committee stressed: “We maintain that a people who are threatened cannot vote freely, and therefore elections conducted under such conditions lack full democratic and legal validity.”
In addition, the Commission also pointed out a series of technical irregularities that undermined the transparency of the election. The Transmission of Primary Election Results (TREP) system was allegedly “not functioning as set up.” Furthermore, there were leaked recordings allegedly showing members of the National Election Council discussing manipulating the results.
The election agency is also accused of undermining the mandatory biometric verification process, a violation of election law that allegedly "contaminated" both the ballots and the TREP system.
According to preliminary vote counts, candidate Nasry Asfura – who has received public endorsement from Mr. Trump – is leading by more than 42,000 votes.
