Vietnam's number one female badminton player faced Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi (Indonesia, world number 82). Although considered the weaker opponent, Pratiwi proved she was not easily intimidated. In the very first set, Pratiwi made the Vietnamese player struggle.

From then on, Thùy Linh managed to regain her focus and had an impressive scoring run, while the Indonesian player could only score one more point. When trailing 12/16, Thùy Linh demonstrated her ability to control the shuttlecock and finish accurately, scoring 9 consecutive points to win the first set with a score of 21/16.
In the second set, Pratiwi started better and quickly created a lead, going up 6/1, 9/2, 10/3... Thuy Linh chased closely, at one point narrowing the score to 10/13. However, the Indonesian player played quite steadily and maintained a lead of 3 to 4 points before reaching "set point," leading 20/17.
At this point, Thùy Linh showed her composure by saving three set points to equalize the score at 20/20. Despite her best efforts, the Vietnamese player still lost 20/22 in the second set. The score was leveled at 1-1.
Nguyen Thuy Linh repeatedly disagreed with the referee's decisions in this match, especially in set 2.

In the third set, the Indonesian player performed exceptionally well to secure the victory. Ultimately, Pratiwi defeated Thùy Linh with a score of 2-1. The Indonesian player advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEA Games 33.
In the men's singles event, Nguyen Duc Phat also won the first set, but ultimately lost 1-2 to Zaki Ubaidillah (world No. 48).
