In Rugby, the "sin-bin" (orange card) penalty is applied to foul play that is not serious enough to warrant a red card but is more severe than a yellow card. The offending player is sent off for 10 minutes before being allowed back onto the field.
Currently, football still retains the traditional two-card system: a yellow card (warning) or a red card (sending off). This sometimes creates too many loopholes in the disciplinary process.
At the press conference ahead of the Ligue 1 match against Lille (early morning of January 17th), when asked about the idea of implementing an orange card to send players off within 20 minutes, the Spanish strategist showed great enthusiasm.
Coach Luis Enrique affirmed: "We need to continue looking for solutions like this. The important thing is that football must constantly evolve. As long as there is an opportunity to improve, to move towards a more attacking and attractive style of play in the eyes of the fans, we should all consider it."
According to the PSG manager, temporarily losing a player will force teams to adjust their tactics, thereby creating more drama and vulnerabilities for opponents to exploit.
Not stopping at the orange card, Luis Enrique also reiterated a controversial idea by legend Michel Platini about reducing the number of players on the field to promote attacking football.
"I remember Platini saying many years ago that you should play with 10 players instead of 11 to create more space on the pitch."
These are issues that need to be thoroughly analyzed to assess their true impact. But personally, I'm always open to new ideas," Coach Enrique shared.
