Salah's future is in doubt. |
Michael Owen has given his candid view on the incident that has rocked Liverpool: Mohamed Salah's emotional outburst after the 3-3 draw with Leeds. According to the former England striker, Salah has every right to be disappointed but cannot choose to publicly confront the club and manager Arne Slot.
Salah shocked the world when he declared he had “no relationship” with Slot and felt he had been “thrown under the bus” after being benched for three consecutive games. Salah was an unused substitute at Elland Road as Liverpool struggled to equalise in the 96th minute.
“I can’t believe I sat on the bench for 90 minutes. For the first time in my career,” Salah said, before insisting the club had not kept the promises they made to him in the summer.
Owen expressed sympathy on social media but said Salah should have “bite the bullet” at a sensitive time. “He has carried the team for years and won everything. But this is a team sport , you can’t say things like that,” Owen wrote. He advised Salah to focus on the upcoming CAN 19 and then come back to assess the situation.
The incident has further fuelled tensions as Liverpool have won just four of their last 15 games. Slot faces huge pressure ahead of next week's games against Inter Milan and Brighton, while Salah's future is more in doubt than ever.
