Marcus Rashford scored a brace against Newcastle United on September 19th in the Champions League, but that didn't save him from harsh criticism from Paul Scholes. On the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football, the Manchester United legend bluntly stated: “I can’t be happy for Rashford. At Manchester United, he’s no longer trying, even neglecting his teammates and the fans. To me, that’s a disgrace.”
This comment was quickly brought up again after Rashford was not named in Barcelona's starting lineup for the match against Getafe on September 22nd. The English striker was disciplined for arriving late to training – another sign that he is no longer in manager Ruben Amorim's plans from December 2024 onwards.
Last season, Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa, where he scored 4 goals and provided 6 assists in 17 games. In the summer of 2025, he moved to Barcelona, also on loan with an option to buy, and has been involved in 3 goals in 6 official matches. Despite no longer having a place at Old Trafford, Rashford has still proven his worth in his new colors.
However, many argue that his lack of enthusiasm was the reason for his decline at Man United. Some fans on social media believe he is gradually regaining his form at Barcelona, but controversy erupted when Scholes – known for his harsh statements – continued to publicly criticize his former player.
