Yira Sor (in the blue jersey) made an impressive burst of speed.

The Nigerian striker made a spectacular burst of speed in the 92nd minute, dribbling the ball almost the entire length of the pitch before beating goalkeeper Davy Roef. The goal not only sealed the match but also etched Sor into history.

According to HLN , Sor reached a top speed of 37.7 km/h during that sprint, the highest recorded in Europe in the last two years. This achievement surpasses the record of 36.9 km/h held by William Osula (Newcastle) and leaves many other speed stars far behind.

Other players with impressive speeds include Jackson Tchatchoua (36.7 km/h), Yankuba Minteh (36.2 km/h), and Kylian Mbappe (35.8 km/h). Erling Haaland also made it into the top 10 with 35.5 km/h. The fact that a relatively unknown player surpassed these speed icons of top-level football surprised many experts.

Devon Maes, Director of Performance at Genk, explains that Sor possesses the ideal muscle and tendon structure for high speeds, and is fortunate to have ample space to accelerate in a straight line without obstruction.

At the age of 25, Yira Sor unexpectedly rose to prominence thanks to a sprint. Genk will continue their campaign against Union Saint-Gilloise on March 7th, and after this record-breaking achievement, all eyes will undoubtedly be on every move of the Nigerian player.
