Sharing his feelings about being able to wear the national team jersey again, Isco said: "This call-up is more special than 2013, when I first joined the national team. At that time, I was young and immature. Currently, I am going through a difficult time so I really appreciate this call-up."
Isco last played for the national team in 2019, before his children were born, when Lamine Yamal was playing for Barcelona's Under-12 team.
“My kids are more excited to know that I will play with Lamine Yamal than that I will return to the national team,” Isco added.
With 12 goals and 10 assists in the 2024/25 season, Isco played a key role in Real Betis' amazing run in the Conference League. Despite finishing second, Isco and his teammates exceeded expectations and made history for the club in European competition.
At the age of 33, Isco has made a strong comeback. AS believes that being called up to the national team by coach Luis de la Fuente is a worthy reward for the player's efforts over the past year. This can be seen as the second period of his career, after winning many titles at Real Madrid.
Isco's Spain will face France in the Nations League semi-finals on June 5. If they reach the final, De la Fuente's team could face either Germany or Portugal.
"France is a very strong team with many talented individuals. But we are Spain and we beat them at Euro 2024. It will be a difficult match," Isco concluded.
