Sharing his feelings about wearing the national team jersey again, Isco said: "This call-up is more special than the one in 2013, when it was my first time with the national team. Back then, I was young and inexperienced. Now, I'm going through a difficult time, so I really appreciate this call-up."
The last time Isco wore the national team jersey was in 2019, before his children were born. At that time, Lamine Yamal was playing for Barcelona's U12 team.
"My children are more excited to know that I'll be playing alongside Lamine Yamal than that I'm returning to the national team," Isco added.
With 12 goals and 10 assists in the 2024/25 season, Isco played a crucial role in Real Betis' miraculous journey in the Conference League. Although they only finished as runners-up, Isco and his teammates exceeded expectations and made history for the club in European competition.
At 33, Isco has experienced a strong resurgence. AS believes that being called up to the national team by coach Luis de la Fuente is a well-deserved reward for the player's efforts over the past year. This can be seen as the second peak of his career, following his period of winning numerous titles at Real Madrid.
Isco's Spain will face France in the Nations League semi-final on June 5th. If they reach the final, coach De la Fuente's team could potentially meet Germany or Portugal.
"France is a very strong team with many talented individuals. But we are Spain and we beat them at Euro 2024. This will be a tough match," Isco concluded.
