The "Scam Identification" campaign, brought to Vietnam for the first time by the Information Security Department of the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with Meta Group, will help social media users improve their knowledge of effective ways to prevent online scams.
The Information Security Department (Ministry of Information and Communications) and Meta Group launched the first-ever "Scam Identification" campaign in Vietnam in 2024, aiming to share useful methods for preventing online scams with the social media community.
Aiming to ensure the safety of social media users, including improving skills in identifying and preventing online fraud, this is a pressing issue requiring the collaborative efforts of many parties, including government agencies, law enforcement agencies, and all social media platforms.
The "Scam Identification" media campaign will focus on 6 of the 24 types of online scams that the Cybersecurity Agency has identified as hotspots in Vietnam:
1) Investment fraud

2) Job scams

3) Financial fraud

4) Loan fraud

5) Lottery scams

6) Impersonation scams

The campaign will include a series of images and short videos on how to identify and handle online scams, posted on Meta's and the Information Security Department's social media platforms, as well as on Meta's Digital Age Thinking website. Notably, the campaign will also feature well-known content creators in Vietnam, aiming to spread useful and easy-to-remember tips so that everyone can learn and protect themselves from online scams.

24 types of online scams occurring in Vietnam.
As one of the two main partners of the program, Mr. Nguyen Phu Luong, Deputy Director of the National Cybersecurity Monitoring Center (NCSC), Department of Information Security, said: “Social media is fertile ground for cybercriminals to carry out fraudulent activities, because with just a moment of carelessness, negligence, and lack of knowledge, people can fall into traps at any time. With the "Scam Identification" campaign in collaboration with Meta, we aim to equip all digital citizens with the ability to identify scam traps and improve their self-protection skills in cyberspace.”
Raising public awareness about online fraud is one of the top priorities of the Cybersecurity Department. When every citizen, every vulnerable group, knows how to identify and be more vigilant against fraudulent schemes, it will help to reduce online fraud to some extent in the future.”
Mr. Ruici Tio, Regional Safety Policy Manager for Asia Pacific at Meta Group, stated: “User safety and security on our platforms are our top priority. Therefore, we are committed to preventing fraudulent activities that negatively impact user experience, as well as enhancing awareness education about such activities. In 2023, we launched the first phase of our Phishing Awareness campaign specifically for Vietnam, reaching millions of users and attracting hundreds of thousands of visits to Meta’s Digital Age Mindset online safety portal. This year’s collaboration with the Department of Information Security aims to further improve the skills of Vietnamese people in identifying and responding to online scams. We want all users to proactively equip themselves with knowledge about the importance of being vigilant against online scams.”
