On October 19, Lieutenant Colonel Vu Van Thuong, Chief of Thuy Nguyen District Police ( Hai Phong City), said that the unit is completing the documents to issue a decision to administratively sanction Nguyen Trong Tien (30 years old, residing in Hamlet 2, Gia Duc Commune) for illegally growing marijuana in the area.
Recently, Hai Phong City Police discovered and handled a number of subjects illegally growing cannabis plants in many different forms.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Thuong, during the investigation of a drug-related case, on October 5, the Hai An District Police Department discovered that Bui Ba Thuy (50 years old, residing in Gia Duc Commune) in Minh Duc Town (Thuy Nguyen District) was growing marijuana at the shrimp pond.
This is a type of herb that is on the list of plants containing narcotic substances regulated by law and is strictly prohibited from being grown illegally in any form and for any purpose.
Through counting, authorities determined there were a total of 190 marijuana plants, weighing 67.7 kg.
The owner of Thuy pond stated that the above mentioned marijuana plants belonged to Tien. Tien rented the land in Thuy's shrimp pond about 4 months ago to grow the above plants.
The police worked with Tien and he confessed to the violation.
To handle the marijuana growers according to the law, Hai An District Police handed over the case to Thuy Nguyen District Police.
Currently, Thuy Nguyen District Police have uprooted all of the above mentioned marijuana plants; at the same time, they have handed Nguyen Trong Tien over to his family and local authorities for management.
