Phu Tho is not only famous for its historical sites and traditional festivals, but also an attractive destination for tourists because of its unique culinary culture. Especially during this year's Hung Kings Commemoration Day and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week, tourism activities are linked to culinary culture, promising to bring visitors exciting experiences.
Thanh Son fermented pork attracts many tourists who come to buy and enjoy it when visiting Hung Temple.
Understanding the desire of tourists visiting the ancestral land to enjoy traditional dishes and local specialties, as well as to buy them as gifts, many establishments and cooperatives producing fermented pork in Thanh Son district have had to increase their production capacity to meet customer demand.
Ms. Ha Thi Ngoc Diep, Deputy Director of Thanh Son Sour Meat Cooperative, said: “During this year's Hung Vuong Ancestor Commemoration Day, the cooperative processed 200-300 kg of fresh pork daily, supplying 1,300-1,800 products per day to the market with many traditional flavors: garlic and chili, galangal, shredded pork sausage, and sour meat in bamboo tubes. Right from the pork sourcing stage, the cooperative chose An Tam Agricultural Joint Stock Company in Luong Son commune, Yen Lap district as its supplier. This company is very concerned about quality, ensuring that from breeding to slaughter, the pork is always fresh, clean, and safe for consumption. After receiving the fresh meat from specialized storage vehicles, the cooperative members immediately begin processing it according to a strict, closed-loop process. Therefore, our products quickly gained the trust of consumers.”
Not only Thanh Son sour meat, but also Doan Hung pomelo, Lang Lieu rice cakes, Tu Da fermented fish, Thanh Ba purple bud tea, pickled cassava leaves... are all unique products that attract tourists. Many OCOP products associated with local cuisine have been developed and widely promoted, attracting the attention of tourists.
The Hung Xuyen Agricultural Cooperative in Doan Hung district is selling fresh pomelos and processed pomelo products to tourists during the Hung Xuyen Ancestor Commemoration Day.
According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the total number of tourists visiting Phu Tho in 2024 reached over 6.6 million, including 923,000 overnight visitors, generating tourism revenue of 4,130 billion VND, a 22.7% increase compared to 2023. The development of culinary tourism played a significant role in this success.
Ms. Pham Thi Hoang Oanh, Deputy Director of the Hung Temple Historical Relic Area, said: “Culinary culture plays a very important role in connecting tourism services to form tourism products. The distinctive culinary culture of a destination will contribute to attracting more tourists, extending their stay, increasing the average spending of tourists, increasing tourism revenue, and creating revenue for the locality. With the aim of introducing the traditional culture of the region, we have developed the Hung Temple Night Tour to introduce the specialty dishes of the Ancestral Land into the tourist experience. After visiting and admiring the dazzling, mystical, and sacred beauty of Hung Temple at night, tourists will stop at the five-way intersection near Den Gieng to visit, shop, and enjoy local dishes such as banh chung (sticky rice cake), banh giay (rice cake), fermented pork, and che lam (sweet soup)... We hope that these delicious dishes will leave a lasting impression on each tourist, contributing to attracting more and more visitors to explore the sacred Nghia Linh mountain.” night".
Stopping to enjoy Phu Tho's specialties before concluding her Hung Temple night tour, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (from Vinh Phuc province) excitedly said: "Enjoying the dazzling scenery and eating local specialties with friends right at the foot of the mountain like this will be an unforgettable memory for us. After this trip, I will introduce this to my friends and relatives so they can also experience the culinary culture when they visit the Ancestral Land."
Today, cuisine is not simply about fulfilling basic needs; for tourists, the culinary experience is also about experiencing the cultural life and customs of each place they visit. The way food is prepared, the way it's enjoyed, and the setting itself create distinct flavors. It's no coincidence that the signature dishes of the ancestral land are so popular and enjoyed by many tourists. Localities, organizations, and production facilities throughout the province have been actively incorporating these dishes into their tourism businesses, especially during the annual Hung Kings Commemoration Day.
This year's Hung Kings Commemoration Day and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week continue to be an opportunity for Phu Tho to further promote its culinary tourism potential. Many unique cultural and culinary activities are organized, promising to bring visitors unforgettable experiences.
