The Legend of the Fairy Beetle is an animated film project that began in 2010. After several postponements and at times almost being abandoned, in 2014, Duy Trung – the project's creator – decided to shift his work from 2D to 3D graphics. This is a technique currently being used in animated works. The project aspires to bring Vietnamese 3D animation to audiences both domestically and internationally .
The characters in the 3D project Legend of the Fairy Beetle are created using vivid 3D animation.
After nearly 10 years pursuing the project, Duy Trung said that the difficulty wasn't because Vietnamese people couldn't do it, as there are many promising animation studios in the country that are handling international projects. "To make a film, you need a well- organized management team and significant funding to sustain the project. The success of foreign works is the motivation for the project to improve both the story and the content," he said.
For Trung, the reason he pursued the project for over a decade stemmed not only from his love for the character of Cricket in the novel "The Adventures of Cricket" by writer Tô Hoài, but also from his desire to create a purely Vietnamese 3D animated product to introduce Vietnamese culture to the world.
Accordingly, The Legend of the Fairy Beetle is a fictional story about mystical insects, where the main character, Cricket, and his companions embark on a dramatic yet humorous adventure. Through this, the film also aims to convey valuable and meaningful messages about life.
Currently, the project is entering the pilot production phase for short films and aims for a feature film. According to the production team, "Legend of the Fairy Beetle" will incorporate settings and elements deeply rooted in Vietnamese national culture.
