The Legend of the Fairy Beetle is an animated film project initiated in 2010. After many times of being put on hold and at times thought to be abandoned, in 2014, Mr. Duy Trung - the person who carried out the project decided to change the direction of his work from 2D to 3D graphics. This is a technique that is currently being applied in animated works. The project has the ambition to bring Vietnamese 3D animated films to the domestic and international audience.
The characters in the 3D project Legend of the Fairy Beetle are built on vivid 3D animation
After nearly 10 years of pursuing the project, Duy Trung said that the difficulty is not because Vietnamese people cannot do it, because there are many potential animation studios in the country that are undertaking outsourcing for international projects. "To make a film, there must be a professional management team and a large source of funding to maintain the project. The shadow of success of foreign works is the motivation for the project to be more complete in terms of story and transmission material," he said.
The reason for pursuing the project for more than ten years, for Mr. Trung, comes not only from his love for the character De Men in the work De Men phieu luu ky by writer To Hoai, but also from the desire to create a purely Vietnamese 3D animation product to introduce Vietnamese culture to the world.
Accordingly, The Legend of the Fairy Bug is a fantasy story about mysterious insects, where the main character De Men and his teammates have a dramatic but equally humorous adventure. Through that, the film also wants to convey a valuable and meaningful message about life.
Currently, the project is entering the pilot production phase in the form of a short film and is aiming for a theatrical release. According to the production crew, The Legend of the Fairy Beetle will incorporate scenes and elements that are deeply imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity.
