"Poor Things" is a blend of humor and science fiction by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos.
The film is adapted from the 1992 novel of the same name by author Alasdair Gray. The story follows a woman named Bella Baxter, who is resurrected by a scientist after attempting suicide. She receives a brain transplant from her unborn child.

Meanwhile, the British film "The Zone of Interest" beat out other strong contenders from Italy, Japan, Spain, and Germany to win the "Best International Film" award. This marks the first time in history that a British film has won this Oscar category. Directed by British filmmaker Jonathan Glazer, the film is inspired by the novel of the same name by Martin Amis.
Set in the 1940s, the film revolves around the life of the family of the commander of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, using the genocide as a theme to condemn human indifference.
"American Fiction" also beat out strong contenders such as "Oppenheimer," "Poor Things," and "The Zone of Interest" to win the 2024 Oscar for "Best Adapted Screenplay," awarded to screenwriting duo Justine Triet and Arthur Harari.
The categories for “Outstanding Short Animated Film” and “Outstanding Animated Film” also named “War Is Over!” and “The Boy and the Heron,” respectively.
Meanwhile, Da'Vine Joy Randolph beat out nominees Emily Blunt, Danielle Brooks, America Ferrera, and Jodie Foster to win the award for "Best Supporting Actress" for her role as Mary Lamb in "The Holdovers."
The award for "Best Supporting Actor" went to Robert Downey Jr. for his role in the hit film "Oppenheimer".
