On the evening of December 23, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired the 27th meeting of the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The meeting was held online, with the Government Headquarters connecting via video link, and with 21 coastal provinces and cities participating online. Attending the meeting were leaders from ministries, central agencies, and the leaders of the 21 coastal provinces and cities.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested that ministries, sectors, and localities continue to seriously and decisively implement the tasks assigned by the Party Central Committee, the Government, and the Prime Minister in combating IUU fishing to achieve the "dual goal" of both lifting the European Commission's (EC) IUU yellow card and developing Vietnam's fisheries sector sustainably.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to incorporate the opinions of the Steering Committee members to finalize the report and submit it to the EC before December 31, 2025; to continue to regularly exchange information and maintain close contact with the EC to promptly provide information when requested, and to report to the Government and the Prime Minister on matters beyond its authority; and to continue to chair and coordinate with ministries and agencies to inspect and guide all coastal localities with fishing vessels to prepare thoroughly for working with the EC inspection team.
