Following the merger of three communes – Tan My, My Hiep, and Binh Phuoc Xuan – the Women's Union of Cu Lao Gieng commune now comprises 22 branches and 513 women's groups. According to Nguyen Thi Be Thu, President of the Women's Union of Cu Lao Gieng commune, identifying social welfare as a key priority, the union has focused on implementing diverse and practical activities. The various levels of the union proactively mobilize resources to care for female members, especially those in difficult and vulnerable situations. Annually, the union surveys the living conditions and needs of its female members, investigating the causes to provide timely and appropriate support solutions tailored to the local context.

The unit maintains models such as "Women's Groups Pooling Capital to Purchase Health Insurance on a Rotating Cycle" and "Revolving Capital Pool." Through programs like "A Million Gifts Sharing Love," "Godmother," "Accompanying the Elderly Living Alone," "Accompanying Poor Women," "Free Noodles and Bread," "Women Accompanying the Elderly Living Alone," and "Small Joy Groups," the unit has supported over 2,200 poor women and children in difficult circumstances, with a total expenditure of nearly 680 million VND. In addition, the association has mobilized support to build 27 houses of compassion for poor women members, totaling over 1.3 billion VND.
Housing is one of the basic and essential needs of every family, especially those in difficult circumstances. Therefore, the Women's Union of the commune actively mobilizes efforts to build new houses or repair existing ones for its female members, helping them to have a place to settle down and make a living. Ms. Phan Thi Hong, residing in Tan Phu hamlet, who received support to build a house of compassion, said: “My family is in difficult circumstances, I live alone and am frequently ill. Life mainly depends on the support of the local government. The temporary house, built many years ago, is severely dilapidated, and I'm very afraid it will collapse during storms.”

Sympathizing with Ms. Hong's situation, the Women's Union of the commune mobilized support to help her family build a new house with an area of 36 square meters, a corrugated iron roof, and a tiled floor. "Thanks to the care and help of the Women's Union and benefactors, I have a warm and comfortable place to live. I am very happy," Ms. Hong said.
Through practical activities in social welfare work, the Women's Union of Cu Lao Gieng commune promptly takes care of the material and spiritual lives of poor women and children in difficult circumstances. These support activities have helped many women members overcome poverty, build warm, progressive, and happy families; at the same time, they have fostered trust and attracted a large number of members to participate in the organization, affirming the role and position of women in the family and society.
