Established in 2015, the model of women's self-management of border areas and national boundary markers in Vinh Gia commune, developed by the Vinh Gia Border Guard Station in coordination with the Vinh Gia Women's Union, has become a shining example in the mass movement to protect national sovereignty and border security. Not only does it contribute to raising legal awareness among women members, but the model also effectively prevents and combats illegal entry and exit, and maintains security and order along the border.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Duc Hieu, Commander of the Vinh Gia Border Guard Station, the unit develops monthly plans in coordination with local authorities to organize patrols to protect the border and national boundary markers. At the same time, they promote the dissemination of the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and regulations on the management and protection of the national border; and publicize regulations on preventing and combating illegal entry and exit. Through the activities of the patrol team, people in the border area, especially women's association members, are increasingly aware of border management regulations, actively detecting and reporting acts of encroachment on the border, boundary markers, illegal farming, illegal settlement, and other violations of the law, contributing to supporting functional forces in maintaining security in the area.
Ms. Xi Ran, Vice President of the Women's Union of Vinh Gia commune and Head of the Women's Group participating in self-management of border and national boundary markers in Vinh Gia commune, said that after the local merger, the model was restructured with 13 members at the end of January 2026. “Besides the attention from the Party Committee, the government, and the higher-level Women's Union, we regularly promote awareness among members about the importance of protecting national border sovereignty. In the future, the group will continue to hold regular meetings with practical content and strengthen coordination with functional forces in patrolling and protecting the border and boundary markers,” Ms. Xi Ran shared.
Besides accompanying border guards in patrols and propaganda activities, members of the group also actively participate in many movements launched by the locality, such as the "Building a family with 5 no's and 3 clean's" campaign, the "Women actively studying, working, creating, and building happy families" movement, and the "Building a reliable address" initiative. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Nhi, Deputy Head of the Women's Group participating in self-management of border areas and national boundary markers in Vinh Gia commune, shared: "Participating in the group is not only a responsibility but also an opportunity for women to contribute alongside functional forces to protect sovereignty and maintain border security."
Despite the hardships, especially during night patrols or in unfavorable weather conditions, Ms. Nhi always strives to complete her assigned tasks well. As the Head of the Front Committee and the Chairwoman of the Women's Association in Vinh Hoa hamlet, Ms. Nhi actively promotes and encourages her relatives and neighbors to strictly abide by the law, not to participate in or abet smuggling or illegal immigration; and encourages people to promptly report any unusual activity to the authorities to help maintain peace in the border area.
Since its implementation, the model has provided valuable information on security and order to law enforcement agencies, contributing to the timely handling of emerging incidents. The solidarity between the military and the people has become increasingly strong, contributing to the building of a more solid all-people border defense posture. After more than 10 years of operation, the model has organized over 120 patrols, inspections, and maintenance of border lines and markers, with nearly 2,600 officers, soldiers, and women's association members participating. Each year, the coordinating group organizes more than 20 propaganda sessions on the National Border Law, the Vietnam Border Guard Law, the Law on Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking, the Law on Prevention and Control of Drug Abuse, and many other legal contents, attracting more than 2,000 officers, members, and citizens.
The responsible actions of the women's group members participating in self-management of the border and national boundary markers in Vinh Gia commune have affirmed the role of women in the cause of protecting territorial sovereignty, contributing to spreading a sense of responsibility in the community, and working together with border guards to maintain national sovereignty and peace in the border areas of the Fatherland.
